What the heck is the point of being able to spell words backwards? Does this skill use some deep part of the brain that only a genius will possess? That was so bizarre to me - and I don't recall them doing this in Season 1.

shareNo -- it's actually the kind of thing that is done in a standard memory test, such as when testing for Alzheimer's, etc. Everyone can spell backwards, as long as they have a healthy, working memory.
Again, these kids are not being tested on anything that is an actual marker of "genius." It's all study packets, memorization/memory tricks and *beep* stuff like spelling backwards, which anyone with a healthy brain can do.
