Claire Strikes Again With...YOU-LIE-SIS!
in place of Ulysses. Facepalm!
shareYep. Claire was definitely the robot of the group -- I'm glad she didn't somehow regurgitate her way to the very top.

Keep in mind that the families are given printed study materials and it is likely that every factual answer (history, literature, etc.) comes from those texts. So, they study the text without really knowing or understanding what they read. They never actually get to hear the words out loud. As a result, they answer in broken -- but phonetically acceptable -- pronunciation.
Oh well.

What Would Jesus Do For A Klondike Bar (WWJDFAKB)?
Agree with bing - not to mention the fact that her parents speak very good English, but somewhat broken. That may be the way they pronounce it.
shareThat's exactly the problem with a competition such as this -- it has little to do with actual knowledge and smarts, and much to do with cramming in facts without context and regurgitation. And nothing to do with "genius."

I agree. But, I do understand why they did it this way. How else are you going to measure "genius"? Competitions or tests like this are the only way to objectively determine which person is smarter. It's not like they can give you a room full of props and ask you to build a bridge, like they do at "genius" conventions. That would leave a judge making a subjective decision as to who's solution was better and more genius-like.
I mean, look at Jeopardy! The whole show is just the players answering a bunch of trivia questions and they seem to do a great job of determining who is smarter.

The huge difference being that, in Jeopardy, they don't give the contestants study packets! They have no idea what the categories will be, and they need to arrive with the knowledge already there. No comparison.
Child Genius UK is a bit more difficult, and it features some competitions that require a bit more thinking, such as a debate session.
How can i view the UK version of this show? I'm to stupid to figure that one out.
shareYouTube has some episodes; do a search on there. Last time I looked, there was at least one complete season and some stray episodes from other seasons. You can't watch on the Channel 4 UK site unless you have a workaround to view foreign TV.
shareShe is the knowledge queen but not a real genius
A real genius is at home now creating a fusion reactor in his parents garage or something
she never should have been there , Vivic was robbed
shareNot even a knowledge queen -- more of a "regurgitation of facts without context" queen. No real understanding of what she is saying (hence the consistent mispronunciations).
shareThe most hilarious thing was at the end of the episode, when she said that, "technically," she is the third-smartest person in the U.S. As the kids say: LMAO. Is this what they actually tell these kids??
