Frances' hair-cut scene

Did anyone else find this scene difficult to watch? Kurt was so clearly out of it, and looked awful. It was really sad to see them put their daughter In that situation. But I guess they were like that for most of the 2 years he got to Spend with her.
It just made me really angry that he let himself act that way around his baby daughter. He should have cleaned up his act. I lost a lot of respect for him for that :(

reply

I was more concerned that Courtney had scissors!

reply

Haha yes I agree

reply

This!

reply

You think heroine is like pot or coke that you just can clean up your act because you want to?

reply

No I am not that naive. I understand people with a heron addiction ar completely controlled by the drug, it just seems to me that he KNEW he needed to get clean, and wrote about it numerous times, but he never actually TRIED. Well at least it wasn't shown in the doco... Did he ever make any actual attempts to get help or go to rehab or anything?

Cool thanks. I will do

reply

Unsurprisingly, this was the scene that his friends & family didn't want to be shown.
When I saw it, I remembered that this was mentioned in the Rolling Stone article -- but I didn't expect him to look that out of it! I was afraid that he was going to drop the baby.

reply

I bet this was the scene Courtney MOST wanted shown.

reply

Apparently he did drop the baby at some point because Courtney said "I shouldn't have reminded him he dropped the baby. She had heavy coat on with a hood she did not get hurt. I didn't have to be so mean about it."

I think she was talking about the last time she saw Kurt at rehab. She wondered if that was one of the things that pushed him over the edge. Also, she thinks that the last intervention was very bad for him. That it was the record company that pushed for it because they didn't want him quitting music.

reply

Lets have a sobering reminder that countless children are at this very moment being mistreated in the same manne by junkies who arent mega rock stars.

reply

Yeah it definitely made me think of all the other children that grow up in similar situations, very very sad.
Just out of curiosity, were the allegations that Frances was actually born addicted to heroin true?? Or were they just made up by the magazines to make kurt and Courtney look even worse?

reply

Frances was not born addicted. Those reports were started in a tabloid newspaper and were soon proven false.

reply

[deleted]

Well, the movie definitely doesn't let one think she was not born addicted (although she looked very healthy).

reply

Hi Courtney.

reply

I don't know if I necessarily lost respect for him, but gawd was that a hard scene to watch. In fact, all of those home movie scenes of him and Courtney wandering around their creepy looking house while junked up to the eyeballs felt like something out of a horror movie.

It's almost as if Courtney wanted to live a Sid and Nancy of her own with Kurt... Did she WATCH that film that she was in? Didn't she know the repercussions of drug use? You could tell that Courtney was involved in the production in this film. She also stuck her foot in her mouth when she stated that "Kurt knew I wanted to cheat" comment (it's obvious that she was lying and that she actually DID cheat).

reply

Courtney did stripping and prostitution for drugs way before she met Kurt. She's a bed hopper to this day and we're to believe she THOUGHT about cheating? LOL she's dense. She even said in the documentary that "my attitude about monogamy was very different from his", which showed clearly she DID cheat on him, probably several times!

I don't believe a thing that hag says. I wonder what Kurt would think about all the plastic surgery she's had. Her face is so different from what it was back then.

I can go on and on...But I'm kinda drunk and typing is kinda complicating right now,

reply

I thought she looked A LOT better around 1997 (especially at the Oscars that year) than when she was with Kurt. At least Kurt wasn't superficial. Courtney and his first girlfriend were very homely (he was attractive). She looks like a mess again.

reply

Agreed. He definitely wasn't all about looks. I remember Courtney was chubby at times. Not sure of the story he told about having sex with a retarded fat girl was true, or just a story he made up. Either way, he was drawn to a personality and not looks.

I remember watching the interview with Tracy Marander (his ex) and wondering what'd Kurt think of her now if he was alive (hint: she was kind of hard on the eyes) - man she let herself go. You're right, he never seemed to be the kind of guy who went after the 'pretty girls' and groupies.

Do you think he would say, "Ew, you are in your 40s now and you got fat, gross!" Maybe he would be fat too. Who cares?

He wanted a mothering type.

That was the best Courtney ever looked. During that whole Celebrity Skin phase, that was the best she looked.

Always look for the positive in every situation.

reply

Truthfully, I'm glad it's in the film. Don't misunderstand - I'm not glad it happened. Quite the opposite, actually. But I think a lot of people don't have a clue what it's like to know someone on heroin and a lot of Kurt's fans think it's romantic that Kurt was a heroin addict. It really isn't. It's like that scene more than anything. I'm glad to see some of the romance being taken out of rock stars being addicts, because addiction is really not romantic at all.

reply

Completely agree!

reply

I felt uncomfortable in a number of scenes with Frances. It seemed as if Kurt and Courtney were using her as a prop in their silly skits.

reply

The scenes with Frances were unsettling and disturbing. I felt as if I were watching an experimental play and the baby was the prop. I was worried for her.

reply

What I hate the most of that scene is the way it is edited, like it was part of Frances Bean's birthday, and most of all, the way Courtney pushed him to hold baby Frances being in that state. WTF is wrong with her? He was outside, he was high, and she forced him to hold their baby while she tryed to cut her hair?

I know it's very different, bit my former fiance was an alcoholic. I would never EVER would have let him hold our baby while drunk or high, and much less record it.

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language IMDb = Catch-22

reply

Kurt was the one doing the drugs but still you blame Courtney? I haven't seen it, but I would assume she didn't realize how out of it he was when she first asked him to hold the baby. Didn't she tell him that he shouldn't let the baby see him like that?

Everyone is saying that Courtney was in control of it. She was not. Frances became the executive producer when she turned 18, about 4 years ago, and CL had no control over it since then. The director decided what to put in it. Maybe he liked her, I don't know. If she comes out looking good, it was because of what the director chose to put in the movie, or maybe she wasn't as bad as you have been led to believe by people like Tom Grant.

Do people know that Hole was supposed to be on tour, in London, at the time Kurt died? The tour was cancelled because of Rome. If she was totally selfish she would have gone on tour & left Kurt alone in Seattle. She left for some pre-planned publicity for the album because it was about to come out, but she did not go on tour.
