Meta Scooby-Doo

So the show's producer, Zac Moncrief, said that this will not be a meta version of Scooby Doo. But... how is this NOT a blatantly meta version of Scooby-Doo? We've got Velma telling the rest of the group that she's the smart one, we've got Fred telling Scooby to act scared and hungry at all times, and they're going up against the same exact monsters from the original series.

This is basically an animated version of Scooby-Doo cosplay, where they didn't quite get the costumes right, and the cosplayers don't really look like the characters they portray, but the cosplayers for damn sure want everyone around them to know the character they're playing by hamming up the stereotypes for that character. This is a group of cosplayers that came together and decided they would do a theme, but half of the people had never seen the show. The whole show is way too self aware that it is pretending to be a Scooby-Doo show, and that makes it *really *beep* meta*.

...with the major exception of Daphne... who the hell is *this* Daphne? When did she become bat-$hit crazy? Daphne was a fairly smart character before, she helped figure stuff out and often ended up as the damsel-in-distress role... but in this she's just an insane vapid bimbo.

As far as the other characters go...

Velma: The smartest person in the room, and she let everyone know that she was the smartest person in the room through her actions. She would be the one to put all the pieces together, recognize the clues when they'd come across them. In this show she's the smartest person in the room, and she lets everyone know that by... directly telling them she's the smartest person in the room.

Fred: Previously a brave character, not the smartest person in the group... but in this... he's a total idiot, and instead of bravery he's just too stupid to know when he's in danger so he bumbles his way onward.

Scooby and Shaggy: Does anyone else feel that they don't even need to be in this show? I'm barely even noticing their presence other than to have a moment of comedy relief, in a show that is nothing but comedy relief.

Up to this point it's just been a show about how Daphne is a lunatic, and everyone else is just a supporting cast to her insanity. Oh well... those are my initial thoughts on the actual content of the show.

That was the best description of this show I've read so far. I admit I avoided the last show for a while, but I proved being quite good and true to the characters. But this, it's just a bad MAD gag about Scooby-Doo.
