any story behind the Velma re-casting?

first off, gotta admit that the new girls does a good job...she's always had that sorta Velma voice so this works.

but wondering why Mindy Cohn didn't return as she's been doing her for something like 15yrs or so.

and the trivia mentions they wanted to use someone else for Fred? seriously? re-cast the voice god that is Frank Welker...the man who's voiced him since 1969 in pretty much every animated incarnation?

glad he came back.

According to Mindy Cohn's twitter they just went with a different voice here. She's also not doing the lego shorts either.

But I believe she's still the Velma for the dtv lines. I don't think with all the different lines going on, they are committed to one cast. I think they still use Scott Innes on some promotional work. And Matthew Lillard mentioned they hadn't firmly picked the voices for the theatrical movie yet.

It sucks when they just recast characters for no reason. But it could have to do with the character design. They probably felt Mindy's voice wouldn't work with Velma's new look. It's like when Michele Knotz was recast as Nurse Joy on Pokémon. She was recast when the character's appearance was drastically changed for a younger and prettier version.

It also probably comes down to preference. All these shows have different producers and showrunners. Even though there seems to be some vague commitment to continuity between series, at least with voice actors, I imagine not every producer wants to use the previous cast when trying to take a new, fresh spin on Scooby Doo.

I think it's pathetic when they don't want to re-use an actor. If they're good and lovable, then why NOT use them again? Just because it's a new show doesn't mean you need a new actor. Only replace some one if they're bad and isn't likable.
