Many reviwers on about "facist" state when this is about a socialist one

Really I highly recommend the novel. It's portrayal of grim life in the socialist/communist Romanian state is truly eye opening. The novel is much better than this mediocre film version.

It is deeply ironic that so many of the reviewers are babbling about it being a dystopian "fascist" state, when it is clearly about a left wing socialist/communist state. The father is in a forced labor camp building the Danube canal. The censorship of films mentioned is from a specific Romanian communist policy.

Really, fascism is evil, but this film is a thinly veiled allegory about the evils of socialism and the socialist "paradise" and the writer is basing it on his real life experience growing up in a socialist state which has no less evil than a fascist state!
