Many reviwers on about "facist" state when this is about a socialist one

Really I highly recommend the novel. It's portrayal of grim life in the socialist/communist Romanian state is truly eye opening.

It is deeply ironic that so many of the reviewers are babbling about it being a dystopian fascist state, when it is clearly about a left wing socialist/communist state. The father is in a forced labor camp building the Danube canal. The censorship of films mentioned is from a specific Romanian communist policy.

Really, fascism is evil, but this film is a thinly veiled allegory about the evils of socialism and the socialist "paradise."

I guess the people that worked on the film and gave it a 10/10 didn't understand what it was about either...

More irony, or, more likely, the modern groupthink you mention elsewhere that would have us believe socialism is an untouchable ideal and that any society where free-will and expression are stifled must, by default, be a Fascist regime.

And anyone pointing out the opposite must, also by default, be a racist, homophobic, Nazi.

why does it matter if it was a "far right" or "far left" state?

the fact that you care, or think that this is somehow important, suggests a poverty of intellect.

reply

These days socialism and fascism are converging. It can be both.

when it is clearly

obviously not so clearly as you would think.

Its only been like a week since Fascism has been grouped with right wing policies. Classically it just means totalitarian.

The film is quite explicit that it is about a communist state, but like the soviet union this government is both communistic and fascist.
