Excellent!

Saw a screening tonight. It's very funny, tender, dramatic, short and sweet. Absolutely cannot wait to see it again. The combination of Bob Nelson, Clive Owen, and Jaeden Lieberher is a delight. Highly recommended.

I liked it, but I did not find it funny.

I agree!! Watched it On Demand tonight. Great movie!! Funny, touching... I cried at the end. Love Bob Nelson's films! Small, simple movies.

I only occasionally found it funny but I didn't mind. It's got a cute and quite sad story going on and lots of great actors to boot (including the kids)
It's more of a drama than a comedy to me but it's a good one. Lots of great actors in small roles as well.

Some nice clever lines, a few chuckles here and there. Offset by a somber, worrisome possible outcome for the Clive Owen character. Obviously a decent guy thats doing the best he can, considering the fact that circumstances don't always go his way.

Anyways, my main take-away is that Clive Owen is one awesome actor. Wow, he really breathed life into a script that was good and by his sheer presence, turned it into something really worth watching.

More of a drama/comedy than an outright comedy. A little slow at times, but a film definitely worth seeing.

reply

I agree, excellent movie. Not too predictable, subtle humor and great acting.

I feel compelled to warn others that this review was written by someone who rated the film a 9, yet has given 1 star to very highly-regarded films (if not undeniable classics) such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Whiplash, The Wolf of Wall Street, Gangs of New York, The Bucket List, The Matrix, Se7en, L.A. Confidential, Gladiator, American Beauty, Reservoir Dogs, and The Fugitive. I'll let you be the judge of how much trust and credibility you put into what this person writes.

reply

Just a warning about Eric - he rated Zoolander, The Interview, and I Spy 10s, Dumb and Dumber, Hall Pass, Joe Dirt, and Dodgeball 9s, and A Night at the Roxbury, Ace Ventura, and Starsky and Hutch 8s, while only giving The Station Agent, Philomena, and Jane Eyre 5s. I guess we all have our peculiarities. Especially those with a teenage boy level of humor. I'll let you be the judge of the judger.

reply

Cause those movies all rock! I, however, don't give hardly any 1 star ratings because that rating is reserved for the worst movies ever made, yet you give 1s to many of the greatest films ever made. How can you explain these erroneous ratings? You must be taking crazy pills! Classic Zoolander reference for ya there ;)

reply

Snakeye808 --I don't know who you're replying to, it must be Clemato, but I haven't rated any films 1s, and in fact have only rated one movie. So you're wrong again. And looking at Clemato's ratings, they do give some low ratings to what are considered classic films, just as most people would do because we're not robots, but overall their ratings are much more intelligent than yours. Yet you bullied them because their taste doesn't coincide with yours, and when you were called out on your questionable taste in films you got hurt and lashed out. If you are going to go on the internet and attack others, have the class to be able to take it, or at least the brains to hide your ratings so people won't be able to embarrass you when you're snarking on others. Seriously, it only took me a minute to find what horrible films you watch.

reply

Anyone who watches a ton of movies, as I do, will inevitably watch plenty of bad movies. So I have no idea what point you're trying to make by saying I watch bad movies. Nevertheless, how did I attack the OP? I pointed out the extreme bias in their ratings because they are giving every highly-regarded film 1 star yet then raving about this movie, so there's something fishy going on and I pointed this out for others. It was you who you came here and attacked me and tried to personally insult me for no reason whatsoever. I was helpful; you were just an ass. And The Confirmation turned out to be rubbish.

reply

I did nothing to you that you didn't do to Clemato. You besmirched their taste in films and I simply pointed out that you were someone to talk. So I did exactly what you did, in that I let others know that your opinion should be suspect as well. And it is. You like a lot of really awful stuff and don't like a lot of good movies, and that's fine. I would never have brought it up if you hadn't been such an ass to them. I was being helpful in the same way you were, by warning other readers that they should be just as cautious about you as you were about Clemato. There is no difference in our posts. You just got upset that someone called you on it and used your own tactics.

You're saying that this person is "fishy" and "biased" because they think differently than you do. And now you ask me how you attacked them. Well, you attacked their taste in films and accused them of being either a liar or a fake with your "trust" and "credibility" zingers Do you seriously not understand this or are you a troll? If you looked at their film ratings and comments you can clearly see they are legitimate and earnest in their opinions. And knowing that, you still played the "fishy" card. I rarely make comments on the internet but yours was one of the most annoying I've seen. I just had to see what great taste someone would have that would attack another commenter like that. You are one of the reasons that the internet is such an awful place sometimes.

And it isn't that you watch bad movies, it's that you rate so many of them highly (If it helps you to understand, change my last sentence above to "Seriously, it only took me a minute to find what horrible films you like.") And I did look at Clemato's ratings and there is nothing fishy at all, they seem to enjoy a variety of movies but don't necessarily like every "classic", or worse, the films you like. But they do have a much wider, deeper and more cultured understanding of cinema than you, and a dislike for the crap that you like.

And by the way, your list of "undeniable classics" that Clemato gave a "1" has some films I like, but I can certainly understand another person not liking them. And not one of them is a "classic" classic. When you use words like "undeniable" that means you've come here to bully others and not discuss film, and you seem very good at that.

If you are under the age of 18, my apologies, as all teen age boys spew this kind of nonsense and attack others, and then get hurt when people point out their shortcomings. It's OK, you'll grow out of it and someday be a little chagrined that you went after another commenter's tastes, knowing full well that you gave Joe Dirt a 9. If you're over 18, well, what more can I say?

reply

Haha wow, there's no way I'm reading that novella. You need to get a life!

reply

You're right, I got a little carried away, but honest to god I was just trying to help. But that's it for me. So I guess the answer was over 18? I thought you didn't read it. John Cleese was right.
