its a 'dramedy' with a bit more emphasis on the drama. I mean some of the actors, Patton Oswalt for instance, is known for doing comedies. The other cast members are known primarily for dramas. Stephen Tobolowsky succeeds in both genre's. Most of the other actors aren't doing a whole lot, they're quirky and a bit odd, especially Matthew Modine's character Kyle. He was funny, mostly because he was just odd. I figure the actor was just having some fun in the small role that he was given. I'd guess that the director (in his first effort) didn't attempt to constrain the actors all that much.
Either way, these characters and their oddness is intriguing and somewhat fun. There are some really good lines in the film. Most of them are delivered by our 'straight man' Anthony, played by Jaeden Lieberher, who does a really nice job. None of this would have worked as well as it did if it hadn't been for Clive Owen. I found myself really feeling for the guy, rooting for him.
I enjoyed it: 8 out of 10 for me.
