Season 3 (spoilers)

I think Rap was a good word not sure why they changed to Click. It sounds too similar to another word and it’s distracting. I expect the cast to burst out laughing any minute.

Looks like each colony has different name for the aliens. I get why the writers thought they should do that, but hello, all the colonies' collaborating leaders communicate. They don't tell the people what word they use? One of many oversights on the show.

reply

The official name from the Global Authority is Host. It makes sense that not everyone is willing to use this word and for different areas to come up with their own terms for the hosts. Though, it doesn't really make sense for the resistance to use different terms across the country as they are the only ones (from what we can assume) with a proper communication network so they should be on the same page re. nomenclature. Whereas it makes more sense for people in cut off colonies to come up with their own terms.

reply

Yes, good points! Maybe the resistance cells purposefully use different terms because they don't want the IGA to know they're communicating? They certainly wouldn't want to use "Host" because the aliens certainly are not, er, hosts.

reply

I don't know, I think it's a writing oversight tbh. Remember when they got off the train with the gauntlet and were met by the other resistance group. You would think each cell would know the different terms for them even if they purposely used different terms. It would make communicating on the radio quite difficult otherwise I would have thought.

'It's not much use without a rap'
'What?'
'The..rest of the thing'
'Oh'
'We call them "clicks" up here

And yeah. 'Host' certainly is a weird official term for them.

reply

I'm with you on all of this except for "Host" being weird as an official term. I think it's perfect Orwellian doublespeak to refer to invaders who have enslaved &/or subjugated all of humanity as "hosts." Fits the dystopian vibe.

By the way "Click" isn't really used by anyone currently on the show anymore is it? Now they're saying something like "Morks" (possibly as a sardonic reference to Mork and Mindy).

reply

Good point. 'Hosts' does make sense when you think of it from that angle. The sheer audaciousness to come to a planet and declare themselves as hosts and the inhabitants as subjects. Fits well.

Yeah, I sure I heard 'Mork' too. Must be Seattle speak for them.
