Time jump

From the time the Bowmans got to Seattle and the this new episode, did they say how many months it was? It was hard to follow since they didn't disclose like 6 mths later.

And if they know they are the Bowmans, what's the plot to let them be the Daltons? to keep an eye on them? Does Seattle need resistance fighters?

I have gathered from earlier episodes that there is something special about Will Bowman. Exactly what it is we have yet to be told.

It was a jarring jump. At times I wasn't even sure if they were flashbacks to pre-arrival.

I'm guessing the higher ups are allowing it, related to the Rap tablet/roladex/database that showed Broussard and Will were important back in the first season. The same reason the hosts didn't kill them.

The timeline doesn't quite fit but it might be due to the fact that everywhere else but Seattle the occupations eliminated the smarter skilled people in power, military, etc. So maybe they were simply flagged as being useful for Seattle.

I found the jump completely annoying and was certain I’d missed a whole episode. I wouldn’t doubt if they actually had filmed an episode that they decided not to air.

We last see them in refugee camp/staging area outside Seattle and next ep they’re all settled in Seattle with jobs, Jim is somehow taking side jobs as private investigator, character traits were changed, etc. Jim and Kate are sorta on the outs, when they’ve been on same page for so long? Makes no sense.

And was that the same family whose car they hijacked in last episode who Kate is helping and trying to locate at the end? How’d that relationship come to pass? Or was it a whole new family she’s suddenly super concerned about? Totally confusing.

reply

i would say the death of their son strained their relationship, but could be that Jim won't conform to the new life like Kate is... she is doing it for her other 2 kids..

reply

I agree but I didn’t appreciate the writers doing something they’d never done before, so it was jarring. Maybe we’ll see what had transpired by way of flashbacks?

reply

I had to double check to see if I'd missed an episode.

reply

I suspect the Raps have big plans for the Bowmans.

reply

Yup. Or at least Jim.

The effect was intentional. They want the viewer to feel like something is not right with the Bowmans and their new situation. First they have Will in a scene on his own. Then the whole 2 minute scene in the house was a single tracking shot that followed Will until Katie passes, then it immediately follows Katie into the kitchen with the kids. We get to see enough of the house to know they appear to be living pretty well, but also there is something going on with Will, that he's not on the same page as everyone else.

It kinda reminded me of the very first scene of the show when they were doing the morning stuff in the kitchen, but kept showing the picture of their other kid who was in Santa Monica at the time.

Originally the raps needed people like Will because he could help root out the resistance fighters, but I think that changed along the way and now they need him in case their defense thingy breaks down and they have to fight the other ETs.
