"Death penalty is racist..." - just to clarify

Not trolling, sincerely like the show.

English is not my mothertongue and i am foreign to US realities. So , to clarify - was it joke? Like, she could not find any propper agruments and she went with this line?

It is alright to take few steps backward, if it helps you get a running start.

The entire US legal system is racist, and trial by jury is a joke. The vast majority of judges, prosecutors, and jury members are white. So are the overworked public defense lawyers who handle every case in the same manner, which is by advising their clients to plead guilty even if they're not. They're paid per case and not by the hour, so they just want to get it over with ASAP.

It already starts with policing. Law enforcement agencies are incentivized to arrest as many people as possible for revenue generation purposes. There are federal grant programs that essentially incentivize police departments to manufacture crime out of thin air if necessary. And of course the mostly white and mostly racist police force focuses its criminalization efforts on ethnic minorities. Or on the poor, which is the almost the same in the end. This explains why such a disproportionately large number of prison and death row inmates are minority members, a sad fact that racists love to point at as evidence for their alleged racial superiority.

Then there is the prosecution, who has a strong incentive to pursue convictions for political gain. It doesn't matter one bit if the accused is innocent or not. All that matters to US prosecutors is winning cases in order to advance their career. (If you're starting to see a pattern emerge, that's because a capitalistic performance society and social justice are thoroughly incompatible with each other. The US justice system is basically a crime factory. The more crime, the more profit for everyone involved).

I could go on, but you probably already see where this is going. Prosecutors get rid of jurors who aren't sufficiently biased against the defendants. Witnesses are threatened and blackmailed into lying. At the end of the chain of injustice lie for-profit prisons that have both a strong political lobby and contracts with state governments that guarantee a certain amount of inmates, so there is yet another economic incentive to manufacture crime and guilt (something that Christian societies have always been good at). And since there is no penalty for prosecutors and other officials who abuse their power and get innocent people imprisoned or killed – it's legal murder, if you so will – the death penalty is indeed as racist and generally unjust as the entire so-called justice system.

As someone with 29 years in Federal law enforcement, all I can say to that illogical, uninformed, pathetic rant is ... Wow, just Wow. When you inevitably go on your rampage, do us all a huge favor and start with yourself.

reply

Yeah, exactly what you've been trained to say. The ones who lie about their peers and the system working against the people they're trying to protect are just as bad as the broken system.

I'd be more willing to hear the story from someone who has been INCARCERATED for the past 29 years over some blind, self-righteous fool who helped screw his fellow man over during that same period of time any day of the week.

Your lack of a rebuttal and ad-hominem attack makes you not only sound like a tool, but you freely admit it. Congrats.

Tastentier; It was not Conservatives, N.R.A. or Tea Party that turned Chicago into CHI-RAQ. It is the trigger happy Progeny of the GREAT SOCIETY and its War On Poverty or the Illegal Alien Criminal Scum hiding in another Sanctuary City. Trillions of $ literally down a BLACK HOLE. If there is a 'Crime Factory' then it creators are the Lunatic Left. Who since the mid 1960s have done everything they could to destroy the 'middle class' and abrogate INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY. That is quite in evidence in your temper tantrum.

Thanks for helping me turn this forum into a friendlier and more welcoming space for myself by volunteering for my ignore list. You're already the second Repugnican to do so. Nothing brings the racists out of the woodworks like the sad and uncomfortable truth.

reply

Right? Nothing you said couldn't be verified with research and the tools responding to you have no real rebuke of your argument so they go with spouting nonsense, quite ironically.

Well put.

Statistically, for death sentence crimes, Black people are more likely to get this than a life sentence compared to White people.

In the United States, for 13% of the population, racism is the go-to excuse for anything that doesn't go their way.

The legal system is racist. That's how OJ got off.
