Driving Miss Daisy v. Mr. Church

I can't believe the same person directed both. Daisy could eat Church for dinner. Was it because the lead (Morgan Freeman) of one was playing against Jessica Tandy and the lead of the other (Eddie Murphy) was playing against Britt Robertson? Mr. Church was a good story, and supposedly true, but it was so rushed and watered down, there was really no there there. While Eddie Murphy gave a respectable performance, one would think Beresford could have added some spice to the stew, even a pinch of the magic Daisy had.
