Didn't Spike Lee just make this last year?

I know it's based off of the play "Lysistrata", so is Spike Lee's "Chi-raq", but it just seems odd. I had heard about Spike Lee's movie for a while well before it came out, but I never heard of this until the trailer just dropped.

Although the director said to ew.com: "...So 17 years after I had written the first draft, and armed with undying passion for the project, I raised the capital myself. We completed principal photography on Halloween 2014.”

Chi-raq was completed during June-July of 2015, so I don't know if the director's statement was kind of a bit of damage control or what. Just seems odd is all.

Two films on the same theme...except one is predominantly black cast and one all white? Feels a bit horribly segregationy (I KNOW that is not a word) to me.

Yep, this plot has been done before and it's ridiculous. Who says that Men are the only ones that want sex? Like women don't want or need it as much. smh.

You really might want to read or watch the play Lysistrata and re-evaluate your assessment:

"LYSISTRATA
We must refrain from the male altogether.... Nay, why do you turn your backs on me? Where are you going? So, you bite your lips, and shake your heads, eh? Why these pale, sad looks? why these tears? Come, will you do it-yes or no? Do you hesitate?

CLEONICE

This was shot over two years ago and just kept getting pushed back, for whatever reason. Would have been almost progressive had it been shot in the late 90's.
