It wont be the same without David Jason

I'm kinda dreading hearing this, there is only one Danger Mouse!

It wasn't - but Alexander Armstrong did as good a job as anybody else could have...

Kevin Eldon did a great job, too, given that there was even LESS chance of Terry Scott coming back!

Has it been aired now?

Yep. First episode this evening. It will never be as good as the 'old' series, but it was a fine attempt, imo.

What did you think?

I'm a contradiction 

Baron Greenbacks voice sounded wrong did whoever did Grenbacks voice see any old episodes because he doesn't seem to know how to do his voice

reply

I wouldn't go that far, it seemed he was trying to imitate the voice "sometimes" but didn't seem to stay in character to me. I didn't like how they animated him either, but I can't really compare to the original has it been so many years.

First impressions, it was alright but it felt like it was trying too hard and didn't make me want to watch the next episode.

I think I will watch some of the originals before commenting further as perhaps I am seeing it through rose tinted glasses.

Why did they make Danger Mouse human size ? I don't like that, darn it.

reply

Trying too hard. Also, having that git from Come Dine With Me as narrator is a huge minus.

Whoever invented ignore lists is an unsung genius.

reply

I hope they go with the narrator having a nervous breakdown as the series progresses like they did with old dangermouse he would complain about the ridiculousness of the plots and how he should be doing something better than narrating Dangermouse

reply

In the original series (I've been watching it on Netflix with my son) Danger Mouse's size was pretty inconsistent - sometimes he would be mouse sizes, sometimes human size depending on the storyline.

I think for the remake they tried to make him a fixed size, but made everything else "animal" sized too - So the queen in the new show is a corgi, and I'm guessing there won't be any human characters at all. It works well for the main cast as a toad, crow, mouse, hamster, gerbil are all similar sizes - but then they went for a Jimmy Camel character who isn't 100 times bigger than Greenback, so they are still bending the rules a bit!

The new series is pretty fun though, I actually like the new female character they've added playing the "Q" type role. She adds to the show without seeming like a gratuitous add-on.

^to me, thinking back, his mouse size was a big part of what made the show special. If they wanted to have a normal sized star for their animated action series why not pick something already that size rather than inflate the tiny ? - goes off into a corner to sulk. :)

We love the new series in our house. Especially as they've kept the comedy and similar animation style. It's so nice sitting with my children watching a programme we all enjoy. We were big fans of the original too.
