Oh no! Another Aussie film with a local cast faking American accents.

The previous promo videos for this film were without dialogue and it looked impressive. I previously looked up the cast and they looked to be all Australian. So I was excited to see a local film attempting to delve into the fantastic with a more youthful cast like many films from the 80s ala The Goonies, The Explorers, ET, etc...

But the my jaw drops after watching the new trailer. They are all bunging on fake hodgepodge of North American accents. It's absolutely horrible. The towns and a lot of the scenery are so obviously Australian, but the bloody awful and ridiculous put on accents are atrociously pathetic and take me out of the immersion. It's cringe inducing.

It's 2016. International audiences don't care about this stuff. It's patronising, condescending and downright stupid. I'm amazed they haven't gone the predictable route of using a secondary American TV actor as the STAR. The Babadook became a smallish hit worldwide and it had no foreign star nor did it pretend it was American. It was just a good film and that's what helped make it work worldwide. The story.

What a lost opportunity for the local audience to have a film they could appreciate on a more relatable level. A shame.
Why why why? These contrived attempts never work. A missed opportunity the filmmakers will put down to 'selling' the film back to the Americans. Really? Good luck with that.

Visually it looks great.
