Symbolism

The wallpaper that bookended Indignation was a lot of fun. It got me thinking. There must be symbolism galore in this movie that I missed. Did anyone here notice any?

Not exactly symbolism but the name of the college is a tribute to Sherwood Anderson's book Winesburg, Ohio.

I am so bad at symbolism, most you have to drive it into my head withh a jackhammer. Other times, people come up with the stupidest symbolisms and interpretations (I have seen and heard authors and directors often say so)

The wallpaper and the flowers in the hospital room.

I thought the lighting used was very symbolic. At the beginning, when he is at home and later in the dream that takes place in the butcher shop, the lighting is dim and a very drab, dark palette. When he is at school the tone seems to lighten. When he is in the hospital, it is mostly whites and creams and the light is almost golden in hue. The war scenes were so dark I could barely see them on my TV.
