Is there going to be a second season?

I really like this show, and I hope there will be a second season.

reply

Most likely

reply

Yes, there MUST be a second season, the cliffhanger ending suggests there will be.

Do hope there's a second season and also hope that viewers can take into account that a Norwegian production doesn't have the financial resources available to American producers. It's still a very good production given some constraints, with one example being a storyline that's condensed into fewer characters than would otherwise be the case -- "uncanny coincidences" is my way of looking past the way a dozen main characters seem to be performing double duty.

reply

Since they seemed to set up a second season at the end of this one, and since the show is a hit, we have to presume so.

They have just started filming Season 2, which is why they killed off some of the more expensive characters (like Arnesen - Ragnhild Gudbrandsen) at the end of Season 1 to reduce the costs of Season 2.

Amazon has already purchased the US rights, so there will also be a US version (fully English, no subtitles). This will likely start production in Q3/Q4 2016, and go to air in the spring/fall 2017.

If only Americans could be trained to understand subtitles, there would be no need to re-make an other wise excellent series (notice how they fecked up Bron / The Bridge)?)

reply

Count me in for Season 2. This series was just stupendous.

I wonder how the show would be adapted? Will they stick with the Russian invasion of Norway or imagine a foreign country invading the US?

Subtitles don't bother me at all and I use them all the time anyway to make sure I catch the words. The only bad thing about subtitles on foreign films is that you can't just listen while you go to the fridge and pop a beer. Your eyes have to be on the screen all the time.

I agree about The Bridge; Bron was much better. I also preferred State of Play, the original British version, and Edge of Darkness, British version. And let's not even mention how Americans had the nerve to attempt reproducing Prime Suspect.

USA occupies Canada under similar pretenses.

reply

US version? listen I love this show but I'm not sure it would make a great deal of sense to an American public if it was set in the US. Red Dawn was set during the height of the Cold war when we thought we had a superior enemy facing us and even that movie was met with skepticism, the recent remake of it was just plan ridiculous. The problem is that its almost ingrained in the American psyche that any amount of overt foreign aggression against our territory should be met with earth shattering levels of violence. No president would conceivable act like the Norwegian PM in this show. It wouldn't matter if the president was elected from the most ultra leftist green party the US could produce, the legacy and doctrine of our military complex would cry out to force the government's hand in defending US sovereignty.

reply

I just finished series 1 and am thrilled it will continue.
And I am an American who doesn't mind subtitles one bit :)

The Bridge was a decent show in its second season once it became its own show instead of remaking scripts. Aside from magically curing autism between seasons and never mentioning it. Much like the change between first and subsequent seasons of The Office.

The Killing would have been a better example of a messed up remake, as the American producers removed all the elements of Forbrydelsen that made it a good show, and then just carried it on it that vein.

But then even the UK where Bron/Broen is a big hit we still made our own remake too, although that is subtitled too with half of it in French.

The Bridge was a decent show in its second season

Really? Maybe I *will* watch it then. I got the discs from Netflix, but then was really put off by the first episode of Season 2 and decided to quit.

reply

Well, I'm American and I've enjoyed this series, as have many other Americans I know...As if the dislike of subtitles were an American thing...Why be so insulting?

reply

Please be a second season. This show was great.

reply

I watched this show over the last week on Netflix and thought it was great I am happy to learn there will be a second season. as far as amazon doing a US version well I don't think it's needed and really makes any sense. I haven't seen any shows from Norway but this was really well done and acted.

I haven't seen any shows from Norway
Check out the delightful Netflix series "Lillyhammer." It's an American-Norwegian co-production that mostly takes place in Norway. It's done partly in Norwegian and partly in English.

reply

Oh iv heard of that show, thanks will do

reply

The other great Norwegian series about WWII Norwegian Resistance forces, Heavy Water War...it was terrific, suspenseful and historically accurate!

reply

It cost six times more to produce than what it made in advertising revenue. I'm not sure how much streaming & syndication abroad adds to that.

Especially when they can make *beep* reality TV at literally tenths of a fraction of the cost with higher ratings...

But I sure hope so.

reply

I enjoyed it also.
