Unwatchable

I'm a fan of this style of fantasy art, also computer generated animation, so I hoped this movie would have something for me even though I'm at least 30 years over the target demographic. Unfortunately, the endless (really bad) songs pretty much kill the experience. And if that doesn't do it, the motion sickness will. You'll get sick from trying to focus on a central character that is constantly in flight, orbiting the camera and doing barrel rolls. It is physically unpleasant. Not to mention the whole thing feels like a salespitch for Hallmark greeting cards. I'm not someone who believes in the concept of love so having it hammered into my brain literally 5-50 times a minute in sing-song just feels like propaganda and brainwashing.

This movie needed less songs, less time in flight, less generic woods as an environment and much, much less 'love'. If love exists, which I highly doubt, it is expressed by what people do, not what they say or sing about.

This movie should have looked at Wreck It Ralph for inspiration, that was an excellent animated movie for children that adults could still enjoy.

This comment is absurd. Less woods in a fairy movie? Less flying in a fairy movie? Less love in a love story? ftw?

Animated movies with musical elements aren't your thing. You don't understand movies. You don't understand animation. You don't understand plot development and you don't understand love. Why you watched this movie at all is a mystery to me.

Many movies are love stories or have love interest elements. Many many movies...so complaining about that aspect is like complaining there was too much colour. You don't go to a Michael Bay movie and come out complaining about the explosions.

It was a bit frenetic and I definitely could have used less action or longer periods where I felt I had a chance to take everything in. Not enough of those.

The music? Well, too much of it, but maybe they're banking on children believing the songs were all original?

Excellent graphics and I'd see it again. Hopefully I'll be baked next time.

That's not true regarding my tastes, I enjoyed the previously mentioned Wreck-It Ralph which had several songs in it, and the Lego movie, which also had some great songs. Hotel Transylvania was also very nice.

I would not recommend watching this movie high, you will probably get motion sickness from the barrel rolls and depression when no one sings you fairy tales songs of love to sleep at night.

Agreed.
I tried to watch this, but... alas. And yet, it has potential.
The songs -not terrible enough to become campy, although the "wild thing kaleidoscope"..., but terrible enough to ennoy at great lenghth...truly, I think the renditions are abysmal.

One the one side, it feels like a musical, that could have been sung the whole movie, but lacks a solid original songs, on the other hand, the songs pop up in such an erratic and frequent way, and vary in style Arnold and DeVito looked alike in Twins, the the whole movie becomes uneven.

Totally disagree. I saw it with a group (two in our thirties, one eighteen year old, a four and a three year old) and without exception we all loved it.

"... the endless (really bad) songs pretty much kill the experience..."

That is a funny comment. It probably is a generational thing. I remember all those songs from when they were popular, probably most in the 1960s when I was a young adult. Great songs!!

Even though this isn't really my type of movie I found it mostly a fun diversion.

Like... when I first saw it, my mom was watching it (she likes to watch movies that show up on TV so..) and I was cringing and kept begging her to turn it off. It was so awful.

Then the next day at work I kept thinking about this movie, so I ended up rewatching it. Then I rewatched it again later. Then I watched it again just now.

I don't understand. I hate this movie, I think it could have been amazing if they tried something different with it.

Yet I'm still here, rewatching this movie and slightly enjoying it (okay, I enjoy it) because I love anti-heroes, villains x hero couples, fantasy themes, and great animation.

It could have been a great movie because WOW the character designs and animation was great.

I have a very weird relationship with this movie, just ignore me.

Ya blew it. Kapeesh?

If you like it, that's really all that matters. I'm glad *someone* enjoyed it (I did not). As long as what you experienced wasn't the result of literal brain washing, anyways. That would be a bit of a suckerpunch, imo.

I actually tried to give this one several chances but I just could not get into it. I think I'm just too far out of 'the target demographic'. Have a nice day.
