The look of the film reminds me of Epic
Character designs, especially the "soldier" costume etc.. remind me of Epic. The "ugly" creatures reminds me of The Spiderwick Chronicles.

shareYep. EXACTLY what I was thinking. Except more advanced animation and a sh*tload more singing (because ya know it's "disney" afterall and they can't do anything without it being a musical).
I guess "from the mind of George Lucas" means that he watched EPIC and thought he could redo it "better" ?
I wonder is SW Ep. 7 going to also be a musical now that Disney owns that too ?
You do realize this one in production before Disney acquired Lucasfilm, right?
And with an announcement so close to release date, I doubt it was suddenly Disney's idea to make it a musical, especially when the movie is taking from already existing songs when Disney musicals are known for making originals.
Besides, there are several non-musical Disney movies.

Same here.
shareHaha... I also came here to post how much I thought this movie seemed very similar to Epic. Let's see how long this topic can get before the movie comes out.
shareThe look of the film does indeed swipe a lot from epic, but from the trialer the script wants to be another Shrek. I got a feeling the mixture is really going to suck.

Homer Simpson
Yes, it sure feels like is aiming for a Shreck mixed with Epic crapfest.
Agreed with you.
shareIt looks like a Epic if Epic was a terrible, terrible movie.

It looks like Epic without ripping off the Fern Gully human shrinking , choosing to instead steal the madcap pace and unoriginal music as Moulin Rouge.

My first thought was that it was a mixture of Epic, Shrek, Arthur and the Minimoys and The Spiderwick Chronicles, and the sing star games, can't forget those.
I doubt this will be great, but I'm certain I'll enjoy some scenes (at least I hope I will).
Yes, yes, yes! For me, mostly Shrek and Arthur and the Invisibles, but I can see the other two movies you mentioned in it. Roland was 100% Prince Charming from Shrek 2.
shareI thought it was a sequel to Epic..
shareYeah, I got the EXACT same feeling I got watching the trailer as I did watching Epic. Beautiful animation, boring movie. I'll still give this a chance on Netflix, hate judging a film by a trailer.
shareIt did reminds me of Epic, but it also reminds me a little bit of Rango also.
Barely 12 minutes into the movi....wait, WHAT!?!? A Beyonce chorus (Crazy in Love).
I was going to say how terrible the FIRST 12 minutes were. But now, ...I am turning it off. Animation is lovely, but (wow) this is a stinky movie!
And yes; I too see the STRONG similarities to Epic (and wasn't Beyonce IN that movie?) But even Epic knew that this type animation/storyline did NOT need to be a musical. (I really did like Epic, BTW).
"Lucas had long wanted to make a film for his three daughters. He described the film as Star Wars for a female audience . . ."
My niece is 12, and she decided the newly enhanced Fruit Ninja was much more entertaining!
She shed no tears when I turned off the "movie" and began watching American Greed.
LOL
EEEEEEXACTLY!!!
