Yes, I was thinking the same. I kept finding my finger on the fast forward button each time a character was referencing to begin a song. It was fine the first time, but then a few seconds later they had another one...and another...another...etc. After a while it felt like overkill.
Sadly the story didn't add to my patience, I was expecting at least a decent film but it turned out pretty terrible compared to most animations these days. Little girls might enjoy it but my friends boys couldn't stand it.
Lucas' name definitely helped this get out there, however the whole film just felt like an huge music video. Moulin Rouge at least had a more natural feel than this, which felt very forced with the overkill of music to guide the story.
