My granddaughter is watching it right now. Probably for the 10th time. She's in seventh grade, so there's an excuse.
I watched a few minutes of it. The acting is some of the worst I've ever seen in my life, to be generous. There's no resemblance between what I'm listening to from the living room and the patterns of human speech. The mother, especially, sounds like she's reading text she's never seen before from a page.
So why does the five star rating not surprise me? Because it's being watched by the target audience to whom it was directed. They would loathe GONE GIRL, for example, because it dares to ask the audience to remember and associate and, God forbid, think. NEBRASKA would be unthinkable. Black and white? Old people? Really?
My granddaughter is enjoying it, and I'm happy for her. She's the target audience, and I don't think that the experience is going to warp her.
Did this film ever play in theaters, or was it a straight to video? I'd never heard of it before tonight.
