Why though? Surely a university having a zero tolerance and being an advocate for these victims would be such an attractive thing for a university to be reputed for.
Yes, but it is more profitable and convenient for a university to advertise such a reputation rather than actually earning it.
A university's top priority is to attract consumers, and they do this in part by sweeping their crime reports under the rug, so as to keep their stats low. No parent would feel confident enrolling their child/ren in that university otherwise.
And I'm sure it's clear how effective this tactic is - as there are many on this board and elsewhere who are only satisfied with "hard" numbers and statistics when arbitrating the reality of this situation: for them, if a person with a badge and gun has not filed a report/charged a suspect/testified at a jury trial/racked up a conviction, it never even happened.
And yet, the students themselves seem to catch on pretty quickly to what's happening around them. What's worst is that they're also picking up on how much grown-ass adults don't care.
