Well worth the shilling compensation

Absolutely brilliant. A triumph.

Completely agree! I've rated it 9/10. :)
Although I do love historical dramas anyway, especially those that are set in the Georgian/Regency Era.

What an extraordinary story and woman! I really loved it!

Certainly worth viewing, though some factual accounts suggest that Seymour Worlsey before her husband persuaded her to indulge his voyeurism was not as innocent as the TV drama suggested .

As one reviewer here has implied, the houses depicted as being in London appeared more like country mansions, and some interior shots looked as if a large room in a period house had been cleared and a token two or three pieces of contemporary furniture installed.

Shaun Evans did well as Sir Richard. Interesting to see the distinctive Alex Beckett (Barney Lumsden in W1A) as Captain Leversuch.

I was half listening/watching while watching RED DWARF on my tablet. My wife was actively watching this while we were abed. I not some negativity towards Natalie. She is no more wooden than many held in high regard. Helen Mirren is lauded all over. I have seen Natalie a few times in the Tudor story not impressed that she was used as honey trap for the viewer but what shape we saw looked good. I was a little disappointed when she bowed out of Sherlock [US series as she was a wonderful diversion or [nemesis] in that storyline.

I cannot criticise costume, scenery, talking habits of the day not having been there. We are of course privileged to view the contemporary portraits but they were mostly the wealthy. They may well be the SELFIE that took months to develop.

Agreed the walk at the end seemed disjointed. I believe gliding was the illusion desired.

What I did take from this was that there was a serious caddishness about menfolk. Richard was able to enjoy perversions which today are easily found as a grouping on is one third of the whole web [really]. I have not looked for the thumb sucking, bottle holding, nappy wearing fat 50 years old section. Yes the role playing required to excite what I consider the abnormal sometimes dangerous and in this case downright disgraceful. If the story is to be taken at face value and I assume there were court reports that aided Richard might have been imprisonable [coming up as misspelled] in our times. As it was the shilling was probably the only way the court could show contempt for the plaintiff.

Cannot comment on usage of the spoken language. I see the word in one post [MEH]. Not in my vocabulary and not yet understood but it seems to be used by the COOL and THE MODERN. Not useful to the uncool and behiind the time reader such as MOI. Language has been progressing all the time I know. Had the s looking like an f started to change on documents at this stage of history?

I just wonder about the menfolk of the past and when they began to realise that the female they needed so much just for selfish gratification and furtherance of lineage had other qualities which are thankfully being [slowly] recognised. I am not 'a lady' but am grateful for the contribution they make to any fair society as equals when deserved. Do not forget that Private soldiers are not the equal of the General in military matters.

Rock on Natalie. You are more welcome as decoration than Shaun and that permanent almost [hidden sniggering] grin is quite attractive. But you do need to keep your clothes on a bit more. You never know who may be looking through that keyhole???????

Lancer165: were you on something while writing that? Dude you be trippin...

Apparently a lot of the language was contemporary - particularly the F-word which is Anglo-Saxon!

Also the words spoken in the courtroom were the actual transcript of the trial.

I think it could have been better, I enjoyed the performances, story and the music as well as costumes. But the overall structure of the film was so disjointed, and some flashbacks confusing.

reply

I kept up with the flashbacks easily enough; I just think it was too rushed. A two-parter would have been better.
