Postponed again until Fall

So if shootings happen every week, guess they'll never air the show. What this show has to do with crazed psychopaths shooting people in real life, I have no idea. Why don't they suspend all cop shows then?

reply

Exactly. USA Network should just air it, postponing it changes nothing. If people can handle the several police procedurals on television Shooter should be fine.

reply

Yep. I understood the 1 week postponement due to the sniper shootings but this is just ridiculous. In the fall it will be up against heavier competition and have less chance of surviving. Stupid USA.

reply

My thoughts exactly.

reply

I am disappointed as I was looking forward to this.

Are the producers afraid that some of the black viewers will incorporate ideas from the show the next time they murder police officers?

reply

dumbest move by the show runners. totally understand and agree with the one-week postponement considering it's about a dude shooting gov. officials; albeit corrupt officials, but delaying to the Fall is retarded. I was interested in this show, more so because there's nothing else to watch on a summer weekday evening, but in the Fall, against every network throwing out their hit shows, this show is gonna get overlooked.

and what they heck are they gonna do if some deranged lunatic named "Bobby" rifles down a few poor souls in the coming months? Scrap the entire series?

reply

People are looking for shows to watch during the summer. They need to release this no later than August. In the fall they will be competing with other new shows and returning shows. Really stupid move.

reply

Why not just change the title to something more tame, then go ahead and air it? I'm frustrated too, was looking forward to seeing Mr. Philippe again.

reply

I was looking to watch the first episode just to see how they were gonna turn a 2 hour movie into a tv series but I highly doubt it will ever see the light of day at this point.

If they wait till the fall to release it will as others have stated get overlooked, sure it will get recorded on the dvr and eventually people will watch it but by then it will be canceled.

The original movie was ok but I don't see it being sustained as a tv series. How long can Bob Lee Swagger stay on the run trying to clear his name? Is he gonna be like The A-Team and help normal people as he is on the run trying to clear his name? I just don't see the sustainability of keeping an audience hooked if they just follow the path of movie plot.

Oh and one other minor fact...Ryan Phillipe, not a good choice for Bob Lee imo, Gotta wonder if Mark had such little faith in this show that he would not do it himself and reprise his role.

just my 2 cents.

The show is not going to just be about the movie. The series is also based on a book series Point of Impact. Once they cover what was done in the movie they'll move on to the other books.

reply

The series is designed to have the chance to be an ongoing show, Wahlberg would probably do something like True Detective or Fargo for one season but he is not going to sign on for 5-6 seasons of a TV show.

1. if you've read the Book, there was enough material there to have practically gone 'lord of the Rings' with a trilogy covering the story
film 1: the set up
Film 2: on the run
Film 3: retribution

2. Wahlberg not returning to the project (in front of the Camera) 10 years after the fact is Not an indictment of the quality... even a 'short order' series requires a decent amount of time from the lead actor... if He's contracted to other projects it simply may not have been legally feasible.

as to 'staying on the run'... the page looks for it to be 7 episodes at 40 minutes an episode and assuming a 2 hour pilot... that's 320 minutes or slightly more than 5 hours... the film itself was 2 hours 4 minutes

see above about how the book featured exponentially more content... put that back in... fill it out with flashbacks showing Nadine (Movie: Nick based on the surname) and Bob's pre-series lives told via Flashback as well as some depth on the villains and they'll have no trouble simply expanding the timeline covered in the Film... if renewed/revisited for later seasons there are plenty of Books in the Franchise to adapt

The title of the book is Point of Impact, which would be my suggestion for the title of the series if USA decided to change it. Of course that eliminates the IP factor in the series being based on the movie Shooter.
