Why doesn't Bob Lee disguise himself better?

It's been pissing me off. The dude could at least shave and cut his hair, maybe even dye it. I mean he's accused of assassinating a world leader, can't he do better then a baseball cap and sunglasses? It's like he WANTS to be caught or something...

reply

He was announced dead to the world.

reply

Right, but he's still out and about investigating what really happened. He's already been recognized at least twice so far.

reply

Have you even been watching? He's smeared black grease on his face and hair. He's worn pop bottle bottom glasses. He HAS dyed his hair and beard. He pulls his various hats down and switches out glasses. He's not a circus performer or thespian with access to rubber noses and the like. And I don't see how cutting his already short hair or shaving would do the trick. What he seems to have been doing is letting his beard grow longer, but the time frame between E1 & E10 is a matter of about a month, not much time for it to grow.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.
RIP Roger Ebert

Lowering his ball cap and wearing sunglasses hasn't been working out very well for him since he has already been spotted twice. I just think changing his hairstyle or shaving his beard would at least alter his appearance in a somewhat more substantial way. He'll still get recognized probably but it would at least look like he's TRYING.

Superman just had to put on clear spectacles. Swagger went the extra mile and wears sunglasses and a baseball cap.

reply

I never got that actually, how does no one know Clark is Supes?

reply

Because it's a goofy tv show that requires drama, drama that is created every time someone identifies him.

reply

Agree. Not the most genius way. He could have shaved his entire head from beard and hair and put in a different color contacts. Perhaps a pillow in his shirt to appear fatter and a suit from the 80 's a cowboy hat and tie. Or anything else making him look different from himself. While wievers like you and I think of things like we do - writers should have been working a little harder than us.

If you are in charge of a TV series where the main character tries to disguise himself you have to conflicting factors.

If the costume and makeup guys don't make enough of an effort to help him disguise himself pesky viewers like you will complain.

But if their efforts are too effective then inattentive viewers or viewers who have some kind of face dyslexia, will complain, "Hey, where did the hero go? And where did this new guy come from?"

I think the usual answer is to add symbolic elements, like sunglasses, or a hat, to symbolically signify the character is disguised, while letting the less attentive viewers still recognize him or her.
