Simon and fatherhood

Would Simon have abused his child if Robyn had remained with him?

Given the fact that Simon was abused by his own father and brushes off his abuse of Gordo as serious, I think Simon would have abused his own son. Also, the fact that Simon also suspects that his son may actually be Gordo's, he would be especially horrible to the child and probably try to force Robyn to accept the abuse.

I'm glad Robyn left Simon. Whether the baby was Simon's or not, there was an ominous foreshadowing that Simon would be a very nasty parent to have around.

If simon thought for sure this was his son he might teach him that it is ok to be a bully which is messed up and I'm glad Robyn now wants nothing to do with simon

I think that either way it would have been bad. If Robyn had stayed, Simon would have either imparted that bullying was okay or subjected the child to some other abuse. The movie shows fairly well that Simon only really tones it down when he sees things beginning to unravel because of an overuse of force or deception. Fittingly, he overreaches and shows his true colors when he tries muscling his way into a higher position at work which ultimately undoes his efforts.

That too was a bit heavy handed though in its conveying that bullies ultimately get what they deserve; especially since it doesn't always work out that way.

I'm not sure how this relates to Simon being a father but I saw this movie again recently and it sounds like Simon is an uncle and that his sister said that he is a bad influence on her son

It has been months since I watched it and I need to see this part again. I really would have hated to see how Simon would have raised his child.

All I need is one mic...

Do you all live in a world where they wouldn't have tested the baby immediately after?

reply

Who is "they"? Robyn doesn't know anything other than she passed out and woke up in bed. What is Simon going to do? Say, "honey, I think you may have been raped but I'm not sure and there is a creepy video of a guy in a monkey suit so we need to test the baby's paternity because if you were raped while unconscious and the baby isn't mine then I am leaving you and disowning this baby."

Uh huh.

reply

Plus it's not like he can afford a paternity test now that he has lost his job...

Good point! And let's face it, all the idiots squirting out babies they don't have the interest, time or money to care for properly (including Simon who now can't even afford a paternity test!) should give up those children to Social Services.

If I were Robin, I would be upset at being raped, of course; however, I would be RELIEVED to know that my child did not have the same DNA as Simon!

Simon mentions that HIS father was a horrible bully to him, and Simon is also a bully. Father and grandfather are sociopaths, and this may be a genetic trait that is passed on. At least Gordo is a real human being--messed up now DUE TO SIMON. Her child would be better off in a loving home (which means minus SIMON, whom she's leaving)and carrying Gordo's DNA, NOT Simon's!

Also, if Robin didn't want Simon around her child, legally, Simon would have no claim if it came down to it, correct? This is another huge plus. He could be cruel to the boy--in fact, he would almost certainly be abusive, especially if he thought it could hurt Robin.
