Implying he raped Simon's wife but leaves a ton of evidence?

I didn't like this part. I mean, yeah it's cool that he was messing with Simon's mind, but it was just dumb.

If I'm Simon, I call the cops. I have two discs...one of me making fun of Gordo, and another of a masked man drugging my wife and standing over her. I have an envelope from one person sending me both discs, so clearly it is from Gordo. If I turn that over to the authorities, I can press charges. (Not sure what but I'm pretty sure Gordo did something illegal there.)

Any idea why Simon didn't think of this? It was my first thought and I'm not that bright.

I totally agree on this one. Movie is full of "non taken all possible actions" from a person who supossed to be a brilliant mind manipulator and liar. Simon just played the game Gordo was setting to him, and I don't think that this kind of inteligent person (like Simon supposed to be) would easely/carelesly fall on cheap tricks.

reply

Actually Simon could do prison time too falsely accusing someone of molestation/rape and ruining a guy's life why do you think he's been so secretive about his past? He's a lying, conniving ass and once he saw the dvd he knows exactly what he did to that guy ruined his entire life, thrown out of his job and his wife & baby leave him. He's eating humble pie finally.

Probably best to change the title of this post and put ***SPOILER ALERT*** in there when you are revealing things that happen very late in the film....

reply

That would involve being considerate of others!!!

Judging by Simon's actions in this movie I don't think he would EVER tell his wife what may have happened. He's a liar and it would look horrible on him if she knew and she would hate him more than ever, and it would also destroy her mentally.

reply

Nah.

First disc, 'making fun' of Gordo - all that is on it is Simon. How is that going to work? He explains to police that he and his wife were invited to a house that turns out not to be Gordo's, have dinner, Gordo leaves a house for 10 minutes and yet records Simon backstabbing him? Picture, in your mind, the policeman having to listen to the explanation, and then being asked to listen to the disc.

Second disc, a video of a sports drink, Simon's wife with mental problems, a history of drug abuse, passed out on the floor. The video shows a monkey-masked man waving in the mirror to the camera, squatting over Robyn's body, and the door closing.

What is the crime? What is illegal? Robyn doesn't remember anything but feeling woozy, and waking up the next morning in her own bed (where Simon found her).

Perfect. Simon knows what is happening, but has no recourse.

reply

Agreed. His face is covered, there is no DNA evidence. Simon will never tell his wife (soon to be ex) that it could be Gordon's child. If he did, she would hate Simon even more bc all this happened bc of him. And it they do a paternity test, I'm willing to bet it's Simons child and Gordon was just messing with his mind.

reply

That's presuming Simon can even afford a paternity test after he loses his job and has to pay for Robyn and the baby too.

Yeah, Gordo did a number on Simon for sure!

That's not the point. His purpose is revenge. Not a simple revenge but something that will last for a lifetime. And on top of all it's something Simon wouldn't talk about because of his character.

You don't need any evidence once you run a DNA test on the baby - if it's his.

Okay, god forbid, imagine something like that happened to you. It's easy to say you would immediately call the cops. I'm telling you - you wouldn't. When stuff like that happens, you don't immediately call the cops to file dozens of reports or whatever. You rush to the hospital to your wife, who has just given birth. You don't think straight at that moment. Just try to imagine what's going on in Simon's head at that exact moment. You know, everyone thinks (including me), when watching a movie or a show and a character does something you think is irrational, we all think "Man, if I were him, I would blah blah blah and blah blah blah". Simon just couldn't think straight at that moment. Maybe, he called the cops later on, we don't know that. But at that moment, as he watched that disc, man, all he could think about was his wife.
