I Saw Hitler With Brown Eyes and I Shut It Off.

That is an unforgivable mistake. Hitler famously had pale blue eyes!

reply

And when you turned it off, headlines were made?

reply

Exactly. Who cares! His loss.

According to this color depiction of Adolf Hitler, the dictator had brown eyes. Are there accurate color photographs of him that show him with blue eyes?

reply

Yes, that's what he was famous for. His blue eyes. 

I often stop watching films after ascertaining the eye color of the lead.

What else is there to keep watching for?

Films starring Paul Newman or Frank Sinatra ... I don't even have to watch. What's the point?

I feel bad for anyone that got caught up in such miniscule details. You missed out on a brilliant and deep comedy.
Look past the chipped paint and see the bigger picture. It's a brilliant painting.

reply

I noticed that too, but why would that make someone stop watching a movie, I don't know.

"That was a courtesy flush. I'm not actually done yet"

reply

I was more frustrated by the actor's height. He is about 4 inches too tall.

I was not compelled to turn it off, but it was jarring to constantly see Hitler towering over everyone else in the room.

reply

i considered that artistic liberty, to show our fuhrer as the literal outstanding person when surrounded by people.

same with movies/series depicting napopleon as a short guy, when in reality he was taller than the average french.

reply

That's a valid argument. However, it nevertheless detracted from the idea that this was the ACTUAL Hitler, rather than a ghost or a reincarnation.

My view
The discrepancies in appearance are not only deliberate but they are vital to the plot because (drumroll) the character is not Adolf Hitler who actually died in 1945.

Rather he is a highly deluded vagrant who is sleeping rough - look again at the first video images that are captured. You often see such people in big cities although in Australia they almost always think they are Jesus Christ rather that Hitler (I guess things are different in Germany). The one disconcerting feature is that he is surprisingly coherent for a schizophrenic and I am guessing he has some other delusional disease.

For me much of the humour revolves around the Germans, who know he is obviously not Hitler , treating him as a standup comedian rather than someone in urgent need of heavy medication

The real Hitler was born in 1889, so obviously, unless you accept the premise of some kind of time travel, this character could NOT be Adolf Hitler.

However, I think the film works better if the time travel premise is taken, yet it's very true that many people who suffer from delusions might think that they were Adolf Hitler.

I wonder how many people would refuse to watch a Superman film because the Superman character can fly, and this offends their sense of reality?

My question is this and it is off topic from this specific post: if a person is mentally ill enough to thinks they are Christ or Hitler then how is that any different from men who say they are women and women who say they are men?

Following logic, if we give into one delusion we should give into all delusions except for those that would "break our leg or pick our pocket". That's why I was so confused when everyone started hating on Rachel Dolezal...why can't she identify as a black woman if John can identify as Jane? Inconsistency is not logical.

I honestly do not ask this question to stir up anger from those who are easily offended. I ask this question so that others who have given this more thought can educate me on why one is different than the other and who gets to choose which delusions are acceptable and which ones aren't.

The propaganda and brainwashing does not dictate people to think that way.
