Raises some ethical questions, but is also a very sweet film

The internet is often a fetid cesspool of anonymous cyber-bullies spewing hateful rhetoric, unconcerned with the consequences. But it can also result in something nice every now and then, as Ido Haar’s documentary Presenting Princess Shaw illustrates. Ido’s film follows two people on opposite sides of the world — Samantha Montgomery, living in New Orleans, and Ophir Kutiel, from Tel Aviv. Montgomery works as a caregiver at a retirement home by day, and in her spare time records a cappella songs she writes herself, eventually uploading the cellphone-shot music videos to her YouTube channel, where she goes by the name Princess Shaw. Kutiel is a musical prodigy who performs under the name Kutiman, and much of his art is assembled from various sources — he scans for amateur musicians on YouTube and edits their music together, creating something unique in the process. Kutiman’s constant search of talent to mine off YouTube leads him to discover one of Princess Shaw’s videos, which he begins building a song around — all without Samantha Montgomery’s knowledge. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/presenting-princess-shaw/
