They ruined Mr Robot for me...(spoiler)

A fucking child rapist/molester??? UGH!! I loved Christian Slater in this show...He was my favorite character..and they ruined him for me. I wont be surprised if he was forcing Darlene and Elliot to have sex and recording it to put it on the internet.

reply

I don't know why they had to make Mr. Robot a child predator. Next to Elliot, I always looked forward to his appearances. Christian Slater knocks it out of the park.

Now, the only thing I'm going to think of when he appears on-screen is, "Damn, I can't believe he molested kids."

I firmly believe the writers just whipped this one out of their asses. What a cliché.

reply

You are mixing them up. Mr. Robot, or Christan Slater as we saw him on the show, was a benevolent figure that helped Elliot deal with reality. Mr. Robot was never a child predator.

And we never saw Elliot's father on the show when he was still alive.

Besides, do you differentiate between the characters and the actors playing them at all?.. 🙄 Is Hugo Weaving a child molester now because of Patrick Melrose ?

"I firmly believe the writers just whipped this one out of their asses. What a cliché."

This was all planned from the beginning. So no.

reply

I don't think you meant this response for me.

reply

Oops my bad haha

reply

"What a cliché."

Yes.

I kept saying "It can't be that. It can't be that. Are they really going there? No way. Oh nooo. C'mon.."

That worked as a big reveal in movies/tv from decades ago. Not now.

And also the tack-on line connecting the knife to Shayla's murder. I knew where the knife was going to wind up at the end of this ep at that moment. So on-the-nose and sadly typical of final seasons.

Thay makes it worse.

After the ending of the show I actually may agree with you. But this was still Sam Esmail's vision from the beginning that he always set out to do. I felt it was slightly underwhelming overall however this specific twist with Elliot's father was great I thought. Still wish they would have went sci fi with the whole thing though.

reply

I'm just glad it didn't end like game of thrones. The ending was perfect enough that I could easily rewatch the series in the future. Something was destroyed by the final season of got. Mr robot will stand the test of time for me. Up there with breaking bad.

reply

Yeah it definitely has a lot of rewatch value. I'll surely watch this show again even with my mixed feelings on the ending. Its a masterpiece regardless.

reply

That doesn't ruin anything for me. This was an amazing, albeit hard to sit through, episode.

And it goes back full circle to the series premiere where Elliot hacked a pedophile.

reply

You're right..it does go back full circle...Also I didnt mean it ruined the show..I just mean it ruined the character. Now that I have had time to think about it though..I think Mr. Robot that we all know is separate from edward alderson. Mr. Robot is the ideal father figure Elliot created in his head..Not the pedophile Edward Alderson.

reply

Yes, I just said something similar above. He was the substitute father.

After last night I am buying into the theory there are two Mr Robots, there's the more aggressive one we see in the baseball cap (like his real father) and the other one that is more calm, sympathetic and protective (his idealised father) that never has a baseball cap on.

Cap Wearing Mr Robot "pushed" Elliot off the Rocks, threatened Romero with a gun, and intimidated Krista during a therapy session.

Non Cap Wearing Mr Robot stayed by Elliot's side when he was suffering through withdrawal, consoled Elliot during his prison beating, balked at the idea of manipulating Olivia and was the one in the last scene last night.

In other words, the third persona has been hiding in plain sight since season one and Mr Robot hasn't actually had wild mood swings they're different personas.

reply

I think you are wrong. It's the same person, since idealized personalities are always made of contrasting opposites. Loving and protective father must be aggressive as well.

reply

Edit: After watching today's episode yep you're right I'm way off base.

reply

What?
Elliot's father was a child molester -> we never see him in the show i guess, only in fotos
Elliot's other personality which he made to look like his father, but is a much more caring person and of course didn't molest him - that's whome we see.
