Good idea, bad execution

I was given this film to watch by a friend of mine after coming very recommended from him. He sort of got me interested in it in the first place and when I saw the trailer I thought it looked pretty good. A contained setting, a volatile situation and a bunch of short fused gangsters, it should be a recipe for a good movie at least.

Not the case! I was really disappointed in this flick, I found none of the characters to be charming, funny or particularly interesting at all. When you have a very basic set up you'd damn well better make your characters interesting, but this film even failed on that. I had the definite sense that the characters were only there to serve as cannon fodder for the films marketing gimmick, which leads me to the actual "Free Fire". The gun fights are pretty cool admittedly, but after a while I just got so bored by the constant shooting and then hiding behind pillars, saying "fuck you" or "fucking cocksucker" "you fucking shot me" or variations of all three (rinse and repeat for another hour). After about 45 minutes I was struggling to get through without losing interest, and by the time it did finish I was actually very relieved.

A big let down.
