Anyone happen to have a copy of the screenplay for this film? It was online for a while although I can't find a copy of it. And if anyone knows the release date for the film that'd be great too, although I don't think it's been announced yet.
According to a document that A24 put out there, which shows the trailers being shown with the wide release of Swiss Army Man on July 1st, Free Fire is one of the trailers, meaning we'll most likely see a trailer, and probably a release date as well, shortly
Hi, Please may I ask a few questions? How did it look? I have just joined IMDB to find out info on this film as it sounds amazing and the one available still looks cool as! If you like you can give me a breakdown of the trailer but seriously any info would be massively appreciated. Thanks loads.
Honestly, I really don't remember a whole lot about it - it looked pretty decent, but I wasn't necessarily paying a ton of attention (I tend to tune out a bit at previews cause I like to go in knowing next to nothing), and what little I do see, I forget pretty easily.
It did look like a fun flick, though, that seemed mostly (if not all) confined to one location (so, that could be pretty interesting).
Wish I remembered more, sorry!
What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...
I don't know why but I have a real love of 70's crime films. Can't say if it's the fashion or the music or just the fact that they look "cool". And the one released still from this film certainly looks cool.
I was a little child in the 70's, born 73, so I can't say I remember anything from that decade but the films form that decade have a feel that few films today seem to capture?
It's what attracted me to this film and the idea of 2 gangs trapped in a warehouse shooting at each other.
Thanks for the feedback, lets hope its as good as we hope!
I got burned a few years back by Prometheus so touchwood........
First thing I thought of. I love Wheatley, Kill List and A Field In England are two of my favourite films ever. High Rise was a bit crap. I'm interested to see were he goes with this. Wicked cast, too.
"How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure"
Hey guys! I'm going to go see Swiss Army Man tonight so I can watch this trailer. I won't tell you in full detail (because I don't want to ruin anything) but I'll tell you how it looks! I'm a Wheatly fan so hopefully it's good!
The story, in my opinion, sound brilliant and a real throwback to the movies of the 70's. Which is kind of relevant as that is when it is apparently set. It also has some excellent actors in it, 2 of whom are among my favourites (Murphey and Taylor, who are superb playing gangster types in BBC 2's Peakey Blinders) I have not been this excited about a film being released for many a year! Swiss Army man looks cool to, hopefully Mr Radcliffe will finally shake his Harry Potter links if he keeps choosing such diverse, "quirky" roles!
Hey man, so it turns out that the theater I went to wasn't wide release. So I didn't get to see the trailer. I was so disappointed! But on the bright side Swiss Army Man reached far beyond my expectations. Go watch it!
But to make up for my mistake, I watched some interviews of Ben Wheatley talking about the film. And he say's its kind of modeled or inspired after those hard boiled gun thrillers from the 70s like The Getaway and other Sam Peckinpah films, and also movies like Reservoir Dogs and Hard Boiled.
So this may be his most linear and straight forward film to date, with some good bloody fun! Although he always finds a way to make his films unusual with his unconventional editing style.
Typical eh? Oh well thanks for getting back to me.
I think the Peckinpah vibe is rather interesting, the premise kind of has a "Wild Bunch" feel about it (desperate people trapped in a shootout to the death). I also think it will have a touch of the French Connection with the same type of editing/pace.
One of my fav films is a 2000 flick called The way of the gun. It did not do that well upon release but I remember when it came out here in the UK pretty much straight to video. I don't know if you have seen it but the last bit has a,in my opinion, a similar "desperate situation" feel. Something I think Free Fire will be built upon.
But as I am only a utility tree surgeon and not a film studies expert I am probably wrong!
That is now 2 cups of coffee I owe to too very friendly, helpful people when I eventually get to the States, something I very much want to do!
I am probably being quite forward in assuming that A:- You are in the States and B:- You are an American?
Its nice to communicate with folk from different countries and film interests are an excellent way with which to do so!
When Swiss Army Man gets to Somerset I will indeed go and see it.
I saw Free Fire last night (Sept 8/16). It does take place in 1970's Boston, but the time and location are, for the most part, unimportant with a couple of exceptions (one is a song that is used). The first 20 or so minutes is the setup, the last 70 minutes all takes place in a warehouse. I don't want to give away any spoilers, except to say that there's probably never been a film with so many bullets sprayed, and it successfully mixes humour with the violence. If the writing was better, it would have played similar to a Quentin Tarantino film. I liked it.
I heard it was really good. I've been waiting ALL YEAR for the trailer. The Red Band trailer looks FREAKING AWESOME, and Brie Larson (who is a BEYOND INCREDIBLE, PHENOMENAL ACTRESS, and my favorite actor) looks pretty badass as well. That'll win over the ignorant jerkoffs who think that she shouldn't be Captain Marvel because "she's never been in an action movie before." My most anticipated film of 2017.
