Damn... only 1 oscar nom?!

I thought it would’ve got nominated for best picture, director and leading actor for rdj.

reply

LOL. That was never going to happen.

reply

Why not??... it was a cultural phenomenon. A huge box office hit. A critically acclaimed movie. Endgame is now ingrained in pop culture forever.

If a fantasy movie like lord of the rings can win a oscar for best picture and director, why not endgame?

reply

The competition this year was a lot stronger than it was in 2003. Robert Downey, Jr. opted not to campaign for Best Leading Actor and he wouldn't made the cut anyway since he had strong competition against Adam Driver, Joaquin Phoenix, Leonardo DiCaprio, and etc.

reply

You idiot...it wasn't that good a movie....😂😂

reply

It was a fantastic movie , loved it

reply

Hey ass face! how about Joker getting 11 Oscar nominations huh? I bet that really burns you doesn't it, LOL! Game, set , and match.

reply

No, not really , I thought you DCEU Dick ryders didn't care about Oscar? at least that's what you said last year with Black Panther, joker was still over rated, good but over rated, End Game, epic , higher rated aswell , that there makes it game set championship, now take your tears and go

reply

Marvel blew their load on Black Panther

reply

No, more like the AMPAS gave their pity fuck to BP.

Usually they'll hold back on awards until a series of films is done, and they certainly arent going to give a lot of awards to anything based on comic books. But I suppose they had to acknowledge Excellence in the Art of Making Money, and normally they'd give that to the last film in a series. But they broke the pattern and gave a couple of nods to BP, and they're going to keep it at that.

reply

If we look at the nomination tally for the three previous films in the series, we have a list of two, both in this category. Even seemingly very achievable mentions for sound or production design have come to nothing. It is very clear that the Academy doesn’t care about The Avengers.

The talk has given me flashbacks to when many folks, driven by wishful thinking, seemed to think that the last Harry Potter movie had a chance of a Best Picture nomination, even though it was quite obvious that Oscar voters were not fans of the series.

reply

So what makes movie a “Best Picture” nomination then? Did Endgame not get nominated because it wasn’t “artsy” enough or didn’t contain melodrama?

I’m really confused because the movie was universally praised by critics and audiences. If blockbusters like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Lord of the Rings can get Oscar noms for Best Pic, surely this.

reply

If you are, as you claim, fearless, why do you need external validation? Why do you care if anyone else shares your enthusiasm?

reply

Lol I don’t need validation from anyone. I’m just objectively trying to spark conversation. Btw my username is from my all time fav jackie chan movie lol.

reply

I LOVE ENDGAME,BUT LIKE BLACK PANTHER...ITS NOT OSCAR MATERIAL...NEVER WILL BE..YOU HAVE TO DRAIN ALL THE LIFE AND FUN OUT OF YOUR FLICK IF YOU WANT IT CONSIDERED....HELLO JOKER.

reply

Back in 82 Indiana Jones got oscar nominated for Best Picture and Best Director! Loool

reply

82 WAS A LONG TIME AGO ...I WAS AN INFANT...ALL FILMS WERE RELEASED THEATRICALLY...BLOCKBUSTERS WERENT REALLY A THING YET...DIFFERENT TIMES FOR SURE...EVEN AT THAT...IT DIDNT WIN.

reply

I will celebrate the day when these comic book movies stop dominating cinema. They are not art. They are video games you pay to see on a big screen.

reply

FIVE,MAYBE SIX COMIC INSPIRED FILMS A YEAR ARE DOMINATING YOUR CINEMA?

reply

The are the highest grossing films year in year out.

reply

TAKING MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKET?

reply

Um, no. I was just pointing out that they dominate cinema now.

reply

FIVE FILMS A YEAR MAKE THE MOST MONEY AND DOMINATE THE CINEMA...IF THATS TRUE,I WOULD SAY THEY ARE VERY POPULAR WITH MANY PEOPLE.IM SORRY YOU DONT ENJOY THE FUN,WHICH WONT STOP FOR SOME TIME.

reply

I like dialogue driven movies.

reply

I QUITE FRANKLY LIKE IT ALL...MUSICALS BEING THE ONLY GENRE I REALLY HAVE TO WORK AT TO ENJOY...MY DINNER WITH ANDRE ,THE ULTIMATE DIALOGUE DRIVEN FILM.

reply

Its no big deal as I won't watch the Oscar anyway. I bought the endgame dvd like the other Avenger movies. I won't buy the Joker movie.

reply

I was a little sad about this too, I thought it would get at least the best picture Nod.

The nomination for RDJ I knew it was almost impossible and even more after he didn’t get nominated in any of the award shows of the season like Golden Globes, SAG, Critics and The Bafta.

I was hoping for a miracle that didn’t happen so I didn’t feel that bad. I wanted Robert nominated sure, do i think he was great obviously yees but it’s just I had a hunch it wasn’t going to happen.

I have mixed emotions on Endgame having just one nod :

sometimes I feel like okay I expected this to happen due to being a packed year with the Oscars and I know the academy ain’t a fan of blockbusters but other times like Black Panther got in last year and I thought this could have been rewarded with a nomination for being the closure of a huge Saga.

Now I think it’s unfair it didn’t get a nomination for its score, the portals music was 100% Oscar worthy and even more if Star Wars got nominated for this category.

reply

Find it very astonishing that Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Avatar got nominated for Best Picture.

reply

Well they were all hailed as groundbreaking in their day. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings were hugely acclaimed and won awards from critics and industry groups. The latter was also based on one of the most beloved novels of the 20th century. Avatar was seen as a huge technological feat and did receive mostly glowing reviews in its day even though its reputation seems to have slipped in the years since.

The Avengers certainly has the support of many critics but I think it is seen as a well-made popcorn movie above all, not as an awards contender.

reply

You make good ppoints but Avengers could have been nominated as a closure to a very important Saga in pop culture.

Sure probably it wasn’t the best of the two parter finale but the academy should taken in account how important this was on pop culture phenomenon.

Comicbook characters who were B and C list on the pages they turned A listers on film, they created a big franchise with 23 films going on a continuous way. It was like watching a series on the Big screen.

The movie should have been nominated for the Impact the MCU created in blockbuster franchises.
It’s still a very good movie on its Avengers endgame but if they didn’t want to nominate it because they didn’t that particular film wasn’t that good should have been nominated because of the Infinity Saga as whole.

reply

Usually though the Academy never goes for this kind of movie for those things. I can see the Saturn Awards giving it a bunch of stuff though.
