Why are these Superhero movies...

always rated so highly. Any comic book lover wouldn't give most superhero movies such high ratings. I don't believe that most young moviegoers have actually ever picked up a comic book.

reply

They are rated high because most are entertaining , and why do you have to be a fan of comics or reads comics to enjoy these movies ?

always rated so highly.
I'm just going to assume that you mean the good ones that are highly rated as there are those comicbook movies that are NOT highly rated.

I'm also going to assume that you don't mean just audience ratings (but critic ratings also) as the vast majority of the audiences viewing these films are not comicbook fans or readers as you have stated. Critics and audiences generally agree that the movies that are rated highly are fun, entertaining, immersive, possess a high degree of quality and reflect a high degree of workmanship and craftsmanship.

Most don't reflect what comic books are all about. Even though I enjoy some of these movies, they aren't representative of what comic books are. Most are too sanitized by Hollywood. These movies need to become grittier or else the public will get bored with them. Then what will the new movie trend be?

reply

I'm not sure what "Comic Books" that you are reading that are more grittier? Over the vast catalog and history of print comic books they have pretty much spanned the range of "Ratings" and an "R" rating is not the norm. As far as audiences getting bored eventually that is a true statement. Audiences will get bored or tired or sated with whatever when the marketplace is flooded with too much of the same of anything. That could be "PG" or "R", or "NC-17" or "X" or westerns or rom-coms or period pieces or Sci-Fi.

reply

Anyhow, I still wonder what the next trend will be.

Why would they make a movie that's the same as the comic. Everyone who had read them would know the plot and how they end. Me I'm just glad I had a movie to look forward to every few months. It was a good 11 years and I'm grateful. Cant say I'll bother with the new un avengers ones though.

reply

I am not talking about plot. I am talking about the feel of the comic books. They are just so different from the movies. I really thought that Ang Lee did a great job with Hulk. It felt like a moving comic book. Many people would disagree though even though I loved it.

Lifelong reader of comics, and I am a huge fan of the MCU films. The other superhero films not so much. I appreciate that Marvel has found a way to stick to the source material while avoiding the cheese factor that comes from a too strict adherence. Some have clearly been better than others, but so far there has not been a bad MCU film. At this point, I'll watch any MCU film out of trust in the brand. I don't watch too many other comic book films unless something about them grabs me.

reply

These movies aren't made for comic book lovers, they're made for the mainstream.

The mainstream really likes Marvel's signature mix of action, fun, laughs, and hotties in tight costumes!

reply

All I am saying is that they could be better. I like some of the superhero movies, but others are just not as good. My favorite superhero movie lately was Spiderman: Homecoming, but Far From Home wasn't nearly as good. The first Guardians of The Galaxy was awesome as well, but the sequel was really disappointing.

reply

I do agree that some Marvel films are better than others, and that few are really top-flight movies.

However, I dont think tailorring the movies to the taste of comic-book fans is the way to make them better.

reply

Maybe I think they have become a little too slick. I don't know, but I just don't get the same feeling I get when I read the comics. Something is missing. Maybe these movies are tailored for the less imaginative, because they all seem to be very constrictive in their approach. I feel boxed in. It's all or nothing. You like it or you don't.

reply

MAYBE JUST STICK WITH YOUR COMIC BOOKS THEN.YOU OBVIOUSLY FEEL VERY STRONGLY.

“The mainstream really likes Marvel's signature mix of action, fun, laughs, and hotties in tight costumes!”

Yes to all this. This is exactly why I love the MCU so much. though my main hottie’s costume is not that tight. But well he is in tight clothes when he is not in his superhero costume

reply

Most superhero movie audience are not comic book readers. Heck, when it comes to Marvel comics in particular - based on thier sales NOONE is comic book reader.

reply

Obviously they aren't comic book readers. I said just that in the original post.
