Why a snap?

Why doesn't the Gauntlet's power become activated by flipping the middle finger or from a j3rk-off hand motion?

Why stop there?

In a different Movie Universe how about the Star trek sign, live long and prosper? Gang signs anyone? One-handed ASL? Jedi waving of the hand? Doctor Strange "Sling-Ring" motion? Scarlet Witch might be able to do some extreme awesomeness with here hand a finger movements. What about a "Double Snap" or the four finger snap? What about a Nose-Pick and then a "Flick" snap?

So many options to try!

Snap was the least offensive of all other gestures.

They should have tried Jazz hands.

it's like a wish-granting genie. there has to be some way to know you have decided on your wish and it will be implemented. there weren't any buttons on the glove to push, so it had to be a snap or cracking your knuckles or something. just making a gesture wouldn't work, because you might do that by accident.

Because despite the whole genocidal maniac thing, evidently Thanos is still a far more sophisticated and suave individual than many earthlings that make you realize the snap wouldn’t be such a bad thing as long as it took those who are asking for it (looking at you, Freeze — but mostly all the lifeless trolls on here). ;)
