maybe it wont beat Avatar?

its pretty much 2.5b ok so looks like it will... but...from now theres going to be a huge summer movie out each weekend (JWick3, Aladdin, Godzilla2, Xmen, MiB4) and ppl wont be so keen to see 3hr EG again over any of those.. so can it make another 300m ww ? (300m being roughly the ww gross of a moderately successful movie like Passengers, Oblivion, Elysium, Star Trek Beyond etc )

reply

I hate to agree but you might be right. Both Endgame and IW has a nearly identical third weekend box office $62-63 million. So assuming Endgame grosses our similar to Infinity War, then it has roughly another $110 million left to gross (this is what IW gross after its third weekend). So it has to find another $190 million worldwide in the rest of its run. It only grossed $100 worldwide this past weekend and will probably gross half of that next weekend.

I'm not particularly keen in seeing any of those movies, to be honest. And in any case, James Cameron needs to be taken down several pegs. If Endgame sets a new BO record, then it's most likely IMPOSSIBLE that any future James Cameron movie will ever beat it.

I read somewhere (maybe the Forbes guy) that Disney/Fox will be hoping EG dosnt beat Avatar as then Avatar 2 can still be promoted as the sequel to the biggest movie of all time..(which is about the only thing its got going for it these days)

reply

Now about 2.67b.. about 100m away from Avatar ..

reply

it will get within 10m, but the record is meaningless, Disney beating there own record now is just nothing, but if it destroyed the old record by a billion, that would be incredible

reply

It could beat Avatar but it might come up short. Whether it does or not, no one can deny it will likely hold the status of highest grossing superhero movie for a long time. I still think it will beat Avatar though.

reply

dosnt look like its going to do it. which will come as something of a relief to Disney as now they can still sell Avatar 2 as the sequel to the biggest movie of all time (which they couldnt do if EG goes over Avatars record by even $1).. in fact it wouldn't surprise me if they pull EG from cinemas soon just to make sure Avatar retains the record

The film earned another $8.6 million overseas to bring its overseas cume over $1.897 billion and its global total to $2.713 billion. It’s now $75 million away from Avatar’s $2.788 billion global cume, but that may now be a bridge too far. Blame competition, including Walt Disney’s own quite successful Aladdin remake. And, yeah, if Disney has to trade the big record so that Aladdin can be a big hit, that’s an easy call for the Mouse House. After all, it’s going to be a lot easier to sell Avatar 2 in 2.5 years if Avatar is still the biggest movie ever

It actually only needs to reach 2.75 billion to beat Avatars record in its original release.

reply

That's still a lot of money to reach in a crowded summer.

reply

It needs to earn another $75 million to take the top spot, which seems impossible, but then, I'm always surprised by how much these movies make after their big splash. Infinity War went on to add another $46 million domestically and $82.6 million globally after this same point in its release. That's sooo much money. Who was watching it 6, 7, 12+ weeks after it opened? Will Endgame also made another $128.6 million in weeks 6+ of its release? Seems doubtful, but movies always surprise me, so as they say, who's to say?

reply

33 million of Avatars total came from a special edition rerelease. It only needs another 40m in it's original run to beat Avatar's original run. If it get's a rerelease, it will probably beat Avatar's total.

reply

Not that much. It made about 18m this weekend. Another 40m is quite doable, and When Far From home is released in a month, it will get a bump.

reply

well

reply

5m to go but it's soon to be release on dvd. Even if it fails to get over the line a rerelease is a given so it has made it now for sure.
