Captain Marvel a lesbian?

Maybe that new Beiber haircut that made her look like a 12 year old boy has a purpose?

Wouldn't be shocked by this at all. She seems to fit all the criteria. I'm guessing that's what they'll do with her.

reply

That would be bad. Why is Hollywood so hard to portray powerful woman that has a husband. Game of Thrones also did this. The Greyjoy sister, which was badass, also made a lesbian.

Because a badass powerful women have difficulties to find husbands? Iron Man gets a wife. Hawkeye gets a wife. But Black Widow can't get a husband. Scarlett Witch can't get a husband. Even Wonder Woman got her boyfriend killed off in her first movie! And now Captain Marvel also can't have a husband either?

I mean, world's most poweful woman, Angela Merkel, has a husband. A regular man. Not an equally powerful one. I bet his paycheck is smaller than his wife too!

Why is this so difficult for movies? It's always like this: Powerful woman = lesbian / no husband. Weak or regular submissive woman = a wife. This is unrealistic. Well, realistic to some extent, but not very really really realistic either.

reply

Angela Merkel destroyed Germany ...... lots of german girls are being raped because of her

yeah, the germans sure has a history of selecting "great" leaders

reply

Angela Merkel also had no children. Possibly because she knew what she was going to do to future German kids in his massive ethnic replacement program and didn't want to submit her own children to it.

reply

could be..... but more likely, no man or woman can stand her when they finally discover how evil and dangerous she is.

Germany started WW1 and WW2 ...... now they are behind the destruction of europe once again, great job you fucking moronic german voters !

reply

Not just unrealistic but dangerous. It's a message constantly being beat into the head of young girls. You can not be a successful, powerful woman if you get married to a man.

reply

Iron Man got a wife after 9 movies. Same with Captain America. Basically when they got to the end of their Superhero arcs. Batman was never married. Superman was never married. Thor, Daredevil, Banner, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spiderman. The only one who has been portrayed as having a family is Hawkeye.

reply

Not to mention Ant-Man, he had a family (prior to jail) and cared for his daughter after his split with his wife who then married a cop

reply

Yeah, it's strange how Hollywood writes these characters. They think being "strong" is acting more like a dude. I think for some feminists, having a feminist role model movie character with a man in their lives makes them considered "weak", as not keeping with the classic feminist "I don't need no man" mentality.

The traditional "strong woman" character according to Hollywood is supposed to shun or not care about male companionship.

A "strong woman" character (Count how many times that is said throughout the day in the media or press tours for movies or TV shows these days, it's so hysterical and overused at this point.) A "strong" female character loving or caring about someone, especially a man, makes them weak in the eyes of so many of their feminist fans.

Just look at the analysis of Endgame by feminist bloggers. It's some out there stuff.

reply

Talk about non-existent subtext !!

If she is a lesbian, not a problem ! But this seems like a classic case of reading too much into something that isnt there

Scrotie McBoogerBalls would know of this

reply

Actually, it's entirely possible that she's a lez, they've, er, laid the groundwork for it. I mean in her life on Earth the only people she was close to was her female pilot best friend and her female mentor, and she's never seemed interested in any of the many hot men in these films. If they wanted to have her come out, a few appropriate words or a kiss would make it all fall into place.

Was the Carol Danvers of the comics straight?

reply

Unfortunately true. What's especially frustrating is that Wonder Woman already showed them how to do a female superhero correctly. You can make her strong, and still be a woman. Instead of making her like a man, emotionless and desexualized. Captain Marvel ended up like a DC film, and Wonder Woman was like a Marvel film. If only they could be swapped out.

reply

Well, I'm a DC fan. So I don't want them to be swapped lol. Let us keep just that one good movie okay. You guys already have 20 something.

However, I respect Marvel a lot. They made Black Panther excellently. It was not about racism, it was not about slavery. It was a superhero movie. Where the main hero happens to be black. Not even an African American, but an African African! That movie deserved its success (not the Oscar nom, tho'.)

They also got Thanos really really well. He's basically an eco-terrorist. Eventhough the result is arguably okay, but the method is obviously wrong. And the motivation is evil. While still being a honest hardworking loving abusive father. That's one hell of a character, for a comic book movie no less!

I don't think DCEU could ever pull that.

reply

The thing about Wonder Woman is that has both feminine and masculine qualities, quite a lot of both. She's someone you'd trust to babysit your kid or lead you into battle, without being at all uneven or contradictory, she's just both masculine and feminine. And the "Wonder Woman" movie got that absolutely right.

I hope they make the Captain Marvel character blossom into an interesting and complete character in time, but that sure as hell didn't happen in "Endgame". She had very little screen time and zero character development, while other characters had complex arcs she was... all business.

reply

Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel are both a fish out of water.

In Wonder Woman Steve is basically the straight(in the comedic sense) character and Diana is the one who is kind of goofy. Steve is just a mortal guy and Diana is a demi-god, but she falls in love with him and shows herself to be vulnerable and humble, if naive at times. Their relationship is comparable to Thor and Jane to some extent.

In Captain Marvel Nick Fury (a character who has been dead serious and mysterious in every movie up to this point) is turned into the butt of every joke. Carol is snarky and arrogant. She has to go up against all of the people who were her comrades at the beginning of the film, and there is not a flicker of emotion from her. Just to emphasize how much "she don't need no man" we are shown how contemptuous she is of her former mentor at the end of the film. The only people she seems to have any affection for are Monica and her daughter, and Marvell. All women of course.

reply

"She has to go up against all of the people who were her comrades at the beginning of the film, and there is not a flicker of emotion from her"

To be fair, that's to be expected from someone who's spent years as a test pilot in the culture right out of "The Right Stuff" * and Kree commando. In military cultures and that test pilot culture specifically, displays of emotion are frowned upon, especially in life-or-death situations. Keeping cool instead of panicking in an emergency can save a pilot's life, and of course a soldier needs to stifle their soft side when they're being sent out to kill. This would be especially true for a woman in the male-dominated culture of test pilots and a human among the Kree, the people around her in both cultures would regard any display of feeling or decency as a weakness, so she's learned not to show her feelings. Wonder Woman never had that issue, she was raised in Amazon culture, where women are both serious badasses and emotionally open.

Which makes developing her emotional side and becoming more human the obvious character arc for her, but as I said she was allowed zero character development in "Endgame". Maybe in her next film.

* Hence "Pancho's Bar".

Feminism: the idea that in order to reach equality women must look and act like men.

reply

I always thought that was so bizarre.

Feminism, especially in the media, worships men by promoting all things male as being the goal for women. Even hairdos have to be male when millions of men have long hair.

It's some kind of mental illness.

reply

Because the goal for them is to become as unappealing to men as possible in order to battle "the male gaze" and what they perceive as "female objectification".

reply

Yes.

It's an insane obsession with men.

reply

I didn't like the look of it.
I wonder what the purpose of that was. Why drastically change her beautiful, flowing long hair to the little boyish pixie right in the middle of the film

I can't think of any other characters drastically having a fashion change right smack in the middle of a film. One that was just a fashion whim verses something happens TO them (them cutting Thor's hair...it was done TO him) or they become a super hero (Captain America turning into a super soldier...etc.)

reply

She looked amazing when she landed with Stark and Nebula's ship. It was a gut punch when she turned up 20 minutes later looking like a dyke.

reply

Almost everyone on the team got a fashion makeover, to show the passage of time.

And Captain Marvel's short hair was WAY better looking than Black Widow's hideous red-and-yellow fried dye job. Her hair looked just ghastly.

reply

Obviously.

Since I don't even know what you are talking about. Widow's hair was drastically different? Ok, I'll take your word for it. Since I didn't really even notice it I'll stick with my opinion that Marvel's hair looked bad. I noticed it the instant I saw it. The fact that I didn't even notice Black Widow's hair at all kind of makes me think it wasn't anything drastic.

I'll keep an eye out for Nat's hair the next time I see it.

reply

Nat had short bleached-blonde hair at the beginning of the film, and five years later her hair was long and dyed bright orange and yellow.

But of course it was Thor and Hulk who had the most drastic makeovers.

reply

I also think Dr. Strange is ambiguously gay. That suit, all those antiques...

reply

Bitching back and forth with Wong like an old gay married couple...

But they're still not a hundredth as gay as Captain America and Bucky in "Winter Soldier". Pity Cap ended up completely ghosting his "best friend" at the end. That sucked.

reply

So, short hair = lesbian. Great quality comments in this forum.

reply

It's all from the article. Did you click on the link?

It's implying they want to make Captain Marvel a lesbian. That's the discussion. The stupid haircut is just part of that.

Did you want to add a great quality comment? Or was your pointless sentence all you have to add?

reply

Yes, I read the article, unfortunately. All speculation, zero substance.

reply

Speculation is the point of the discussion. Lots of other topics out there if you don't like this one.

reply

I think a pointless sentence is all this issue warrants. Some people need to get out more instead of raging about superhero haircuts on the internet.
