Ways to advance Black Widow's story after Endgame

SPOILERS - If you haven't seen the movie yet, please remove yourself from discussion.

Saw Avengers: Endgame for a second time and caught more details that I missed the first time, due to the rush of emotion and the noise in the theater. A plot point about Natasha especially stuck out that I can't believe I missed initially.

In the scene by the lake, Clint tells Banner-Hulk that there's no bringing Natasha back and using the gauntlet won't do it. He relates that this sacrifice was permanent, according to the keeper of the soul stone. However Gamora was also sacrificed to get the soul stone and her past self was brought into the present via the quantum time machine, so they left open that way to bring Natasha/Black Widow back for a future movie, without that movie being a prequel.

It will be interesting to see what they do in this regard.

Anyway, I've been awash in all these thoughts and ideas. How awesome is it that Feige/Marvel gave us such a rich, wonderful universe to enjoy all these years. I'm forever grateful.

Interesting theory, but if they can do that to natasha , the can do it for everyone , everytime they die, just being there past self back

I'm thinking something else , when Cap went back to return the stones to their original timelines , the moment he gave back the soul stone should have resurrected Black Widow

reply

Oh wow, I hadn't thought of that possibility when Cap returned the stones. Great point wickerman1271!

but you cant effect the future according to Hulk?

reply

You can't effect the future of the main timeline but if putting back in place the soul stone revives her they could bring her back with the Pym particles from that timeline to the current timeline

reply

I agree but hey, the did it with Gamora. That's the thing about these MCU movies. The devil is in the details sometimes and if they can use a plot hole in one movie to advance another one, they will.

reply

To be fair, they didn't mean to bring Gamora back. Thanos along with past Gamora and Nebula were just at the right place at the right time and used past Nebula and her future memories to bring them into the present timeline.

reply

While part of me really wants to see that, the other part of me hopes they use the time machine sparingly.

I feel the Black Widow movie will be more compelling and honor her character more by showing us who she was before she was killed. Even if they don't bring her back into the mainline MCU though, there's nothing saying that her movie won't take place in a different timeline since time travel has been established.

I'm nearly 100% sure they intend to end the Black Widow movie with her current day resurrection

I really wish they wouldn't, though
