Shouldn't Bucky be the next Cap?

he has the super soldier strength after all...

reply

He wants to live a peaceful life on his farm.

reply

Probably not..in the comics Falcon takes over, but remember Bucky is still recovering from Hydra being in his head from Civil War and more than likely is still having issues with it. Bucky does take over eventually.

reply

I've never read any comics. How does he fight without the super strength, speed, quickness and reflexes? How do they pull it off in the comic?

Or does he basically stay the Falcon and fly around with his jet back.....but incorporates the shield as well as he flies around?

Describe how they pull this off since Sam doesn't have Steve's abilities?

reply

Sam still has the Falcon harness and everything. He has to train to learn how to throw the shield (some "normal" humans have been able to throw it around such as Hawkeye and the Punisher).

Remember the scene when Tony and Capt went back in time to 1940, and Capt said something like this is where Captain America was born. And Tony was like, you were born here? And Capt said the concept of Captain America is what was born here. Or something like that.

Sam is not going to be Steve Roger style Captain America. He's still Falcon. No superpower, just fancy wings. But by wearing the title Captain America, he'll be the embodiment of American values, American justice and American freedom. So he's not simply a replacement Captain America. He's still Falcon. But Captain America. Or something like that.

reply

I'd prefer it that way, but it makes sense he isn't. The general public more than likely still view him as a terrorist for what he did while brainwashed and what he was framed for in Civil War. Plus, he pretty much gave Falcon his blessing.

SPOILERS FOR ENDGAME BELOW!!!!!

Given the way Bucky told Sam to go talk to Steve, I get the sense that Bucky and Steve had a conversation before Steve left, and Bucky knew that Steve was going to track Peggy down and let himself age, and then ask Sam to be Captain America.

I mean, that's the only way that scene makes sense. There's no way, otherwise, that Bucky would have seen Steve sitting on that bench, looking much smaller and older, and NOT immediately run to him and see what's wrong. He knew what was going to happen. And he was cool with it because he knew some tiny part of him was still Hydra and didn't trust himself.

reply

Agreed. Another thing being that when Cap hadn't returned right away from returning the stones, Falcon and Hulk immediately start freaking out while Bucky stays cool.

reply

You're right about the super-strength. So far, the only power Sam has had is, wings.

Still, Bucky has committed terrible crimes, admittedly whilst brainwashed whereas Sam carries none of that baggage. He has always been on the side of good (give or take his spell in the military).

reply

it's not about the powers. it's about the ideals. Sam embodies the same ideals as Capt. It's why Steve was chosen in the first place.

I think Bucky might think he doesn't deserve the mantle due to what happened to him. He's still somewhat haunted.

reply

There's a reason for that scene in Avengers: Infinity War when Black Panther brings Bucky a new mechanical arm and says "This one may be tired of war" and when Bucky opens the case he has a resigned look, sighs, and asks where the fight is.

reply

Exactly. Bucky has been trying to retire ever since Winter Soldier. I'm surprised more people don't realize this.

reply

Bucky should have been the next Captain America.
