So Marvel has just

Given away that Tony Stark survives being marooned in space! Did they mean to do that? Wasn't his looming death the main feature of the first trailer? Odd choice for the Super Bowl spot.

reply

Did I miss something in the trailer? Granted, it went by quickly, but the only time I think I saw Stark was the shot of him stranded on that ship along with Nebula, which was already revealed to be the case in the first trailer.

reply

There was no shot of Tony and Nebula in the first trailer, but clearly they are working together in the Super Bowl teaser.

reply

We know Tony was on the same ship as Nebula since it was the Guardians' ship as we also get a shot of Nebula in the same ship. Even though she is not beside Tony, it's obvious they are on the same ship. Aside from all that, we know Tony and Nebula were stranded on titan together, so it makes sense that they try to escape together.

All that said, we do not see tony on Earth in the new teaser.

reply

We did see them together in the first trailer. There was a moment where Nebula's hand reached out and came to rest on Tony's shoulder in the first trailer.

reply

You see a hand and a shoulder, that's all. If you want to imagine the hand was Nebula's and the shoulder was Tony Stark's, you're welcome.

reply

If you watch the IMAX trailer, it's made clear that it's Nebula and Stark.

reply

If we assume that the above is not true, though it seems purposefully clear from the trailer, let's look at it from another angle. Infinity War ends with Stark and Nebula on Titan, so it's not much of a spoiler to assume they leave Titan together. So seeing them together spoils nothing.

The shot of them working on a ship together doesn't mean that Stark survives anything, as we have no idea when that working together moment takes place. Maybe they did some work to get the ship up and running, or maybe they worked to repair it once it was in space? Both scenarios make sense before the scene we have seen of Stark leaving Pepper a message.

reply

Didn't you see Far From Home trailer? It is pretty much all but confirmed Tony Stark is dead after End Game.
- Happy saying how they've lost so much.
- Nick Fury filling the parental/overseer role for Tony Stark.

reply

Nebula was in the background, and it looks like they might be repairing a spacehip. It's possible that shot was pre Tony floating through space. Even if it wasn't, did you really think Tony was going to die that way? It would make Doctor Strange's sacrifice make no sense.

reply

Aw come on, we ALL know that Stark isnt going to die a lonely death in deep space!

Sure he may die, but Marvel won't give their #1 hero anything less than a heartbreaking and heroic death at the finale. With all humanity watching, in all likelihood.

reply

I know Tony Stark survives being marooned in space like I know time will be reversed bringing everyone(mostly) back to life. But Marvel made such a big deal of Tony's predicament in the trailer, it seems odd they'd just tell us he survived two months before the film's release.

reply

So....
Nebula's arm and Tony's shoulder on the ship = OK
Nebula and Tony working together on the ship = Spoiler that completely undercuts the first trailer?

Dang that's a huge jump in logic.

The real reason we know Tony doesn't die in space is because that would be a sucky way to end his character.

reply

Bingo

Kevin Feige has stated in an interview that he will not show anything past the first 15 or so minutes of the film in ANY of the trailers, even the final one

It makes sense because this is a movie that sells itself. Everyone watched Infinity War and Infinity War is the best trailer for Endgame that you could possibly get. Everyone wants to know what happens after the snap. So they might as well spoil almost nothing of Endgame with the trailers

So, yeah. Assuming that the Tony Stark in space scene happens in the first fifteen minutes, we can assume he survives it, because if they were to kill him off it wouldn't be in the beginning. They'd put his death near the climax of the film
