Why didn't they just say this to Thanos?

Hey Thanos, you have all the Infinity Stones and can control time, space, etc. Why not just snap your fingers and make enough room and resources for everybody to peacefully live in the universe?

They covered this in “Inception” - once an idea gets hold of you, you’ll never shake it

Thanos has had this singular ambition for likely centuries if not millennia

He’s no more likely to have a “what am I doing?” moment than Donald Trump

Assuming Thanos claims are true, lifeforms will eventually overpopulate and consume all the resources in both scenarios, his and yours. Thanos' solution was temporary. A better solution would be to introduce a super predator that would occasionally cull species that overpopulate.

But, any species sufficiently advanced enough to consume all their planet's resources should be advanced enough to grow enough food or migrate to other planets.
