So...Thanos is Al Gore?

Or is it the other way around? Al wanted to kill half of the world's population in 2006 to stop global warming. Since I don't read comics, when did Marvel Comics introduce Thanos' plan to eliminate half of the universe's population? Before or after 2006?

It was 1991 when Marvel Comics released the six-issue The Infinity Gauntlet.

To be fair the comic had him doing it to get The Godess of death to fall in love with him.

Thanos did not have that motivation in the comics. In the comics, he is a Nihilist who worships Death herself.

I really wish they had worked this in. The motive in the movies has too many people going "Hmmmm…" as if he was sympathetic character.
