' Tony.. there was no other way '

THE most interesting comment in the movie.

Now I am more of a Sci-fi fan than a comic book guy so all you fanboys please excuse my ignorance on Infinity War stuff.

But that comment from (spoiler) a soon to be dead Dr. Strange is extremely intriguing. It can be taken as a resignation of defeat, that this was the only path taken in the 14+ million future battle scenarios that he envisioned.

or

That it is just part of THE PATH to FINAL victory, that you must let Thanos win and get his wish. Why else would Dr. Strange give the time crystal to Thanos to save Tony Stark...unless Stark was a key component in his one vision of victory.

reply

I took it that from all the possible future outcomes he saw that giving Thanos the ring was the only outcome in which they came out on top (kind of like in Men in Black 3 when Griff told K and J that the only outcome that was successful was the one in which they told the MP's the truth).

I forget how many possible futures did Strange say he had seen? I know it was a lot.

reply

Thanos got engaged?

When's the wedding?

reply

My bad, I meant the necklace.

reply

You meant stone of course and it was +14 Million different scenarios.

What is the probability of winning Powerball in USA?

The odds of winning the Jackpot is 1 in 292 million. More precisely, it's 1 in 292,201,338. The odds were previously 1 in 175 million but changed as of October 2015.
The odds for the one million dollar prize is 1 in 11,688,053.52.

reply

In the comics, it's usually Thanos' own hubris that defeats him, not the heroes, so letting him form the Infinity Gauntlet does seem to set him on the path to defeat.

reply

time crystal? it was the time stone. not crystal.

reply

dude shot be shot for such an egregious error!

reply

Time crystal? Is this some kind of star trek?

I think the guy (whoever the OP was??? not posted lately) had genius insight and deductive powers. No other poster got it correct before Endgame was released.

reply

Well i thing to it's impossible to Dr. Strange sees possible outcomes which happens after his death despite the power of time stone. Even his astral projection will be vanished after his death.

The whole Dr. Strange 14m outcomes part is there just to confuse watchers. He let's Thanos to spare Tony live because he knows his importance for survived humans on Earth. Loos of Tony could be devastating to us and whole universe so it's clever to trade stone for Tony life instead of to be stubborn and leave Thanos to kill everyone to get the stone.

That one winning scenario is the one in which Quill doesn't affect the "taking the gauntlet off" part of the battle. But even the time stone can't predict everything perfectly 'coz of chaos theory.

reply

Precisely! I couldn't have said it better myself.

reply

But the OP was correct. The only thread to guess it before Endgame came out in 2019. Dr Strange putting up the one finger before Tony dies confirms this.

Sir--- a standing applause for hitting on the KEY LINE in this movie.👏👏👏👏

Your analysis of the future movie was correct.

Your talents are truely wasted here.

reply

As everything worked out the way it did, there really was no other way. Alternate realities are a sham as cause and effect are real.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

If Strange really has seen all the possible futures and has sorted out which one is the only one that'll work... then he knows damn well that the Infinity War ends with Tony dying and himself surviving.

So he gave that crystal to Thanos to save half the universe, let himself get snapped without regret because he knew he'd be back, and gave Tony a regretful look because he knew that he was working towards an outcome where Tony died.
