Throwing in my two cents *spoilers*

Alright... before I jump into this review, I want to make this absolutely clear; I am judging this movie solely as a movie of its own merit, I am in no way saying someone is a bad person, nor am I saying anything about female super hero movies. This is my review of this movie on its own, and nothing else. If this review upsets some people, I’m sorry. I don’t want to continue the ongoing garbage reviews of this movie, so let me state, in my opinion, why this movie didn’t work for me.

“Captain Marvel” is probably my least favorite of the MCU, which may upset some people, especially since everyone I saw it with enjoyed either a lot, or thought it was just okay. For me, I just felt cheated. The hype leading up to this movie was exciting, and several of my favorite actors where playing great characters, and I was so ready to love this. I walked out of this movie feeling really disappointed. Yet before I go into what disappointed me, let me go over what I did like.

Pro:
A lot of the comedy in this movie is on point. The chemistry between CM, and Nick Fury was off the charts. Their were so many moments these two knocked it out of the park together.

Holy cow, the de-aging effect on Samuel L. Jackson was really good looking. I was more creeped out on how not creeped out I was. Brilliant work guys!!

Jude Law is always a win.

It was nice seeing Ben Menddleson in something other than “bad guy”, and giving him a role where he can flourish in some nice expectation subversion later.

I have been waiting for the skrulls for a long time, and I love how they were done here. The shape shifting terror they caused people, to being highly sympathetic characters was brilliantly done.

Goose the cat is amazing! That is all.

Cons:
I know some people will either love or hate this one, so again, let me clarify, nothing against Brie Larson personally, I love her as an actress, and I do think she is probably an amazing person, but this performance didn’t work for me. It all felt very one note throughout the movie: look tough, be strong, and say everything like you’re in a super bowl commercial.
That was the last thing I wanted out of her, and honestly she has much more personality in “Avengers: Endgame”, and knowing she gave a better performance later doesn’t make this any better, in fact, it makes this performance worse. This upsets me more than most fans, mostly because Brie Larson is in my top 10 actors and actresses, so I hold her in high regard, so I felt cheated with this performance.

You had to take Jude Law, one of the best actors working today, and turn him into the stereotypical British villain... come on Marvel! This man was perfect for someone like Doctor Doom, but nope! You took a great actor, and made him such stereotypical villain. Screw the politics of this movie, screw the “controversy” this movie created, this moment, right here, where you took a great actor, and made him fo the bare minimum is insulting!

This screenplay is so ‘paint by numbers’ it hurts... and after all the awesome Marvel films we had gotten, Marvel can’t do a ‘paint by numbers’ anymore. That’s not fair on the fans, or anyone else, because you’ve given us so much stronger scripts, and for you to have five writers on this, and no one say anything honestly feels like a cheat.

The cinematography is... confusing. It’s occasionally brilliant, like in the train fight sequence, but then in the skrull ship at the beginning, the stupid shaky cam begun, and no one could see the action.

Let me state this: I wanted more out of the movie that was the movie between ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’. This should have answered questions about what was to come, or what was coming next, and we didn’t, we got a movie that was so generic, it wasn’t a fun time for me. I really expected more out these people, and I got the bare minimum.
That being said, if you like this movie, that’s great! This is just my opinion, so take this with a grain of salt, and I’m glad you could enjoy something I couldn’t. In fact, both my older sister, and little brother love this movie, so it’s probably just personal preference for me. Thanks for reading!

It's funny that you mention she had more personality in Endgame considering she actually did all of her Endgame stuff before she did Captain Marvel.
