DVD extras and Deleted Scenes

Currently running on YouTube are many of the deleted scenes, commentary, bloopers and production background videos that truly cement the movie as much better than some have received. Additionally Brie Larson demonstrates that she is being directed and performs the role as it is portrayed. It is a very good performance by impression and Brie did impress me with the character of Carol Danvers and Vers.

When she discovers her humanity or humanness it is a revelation for her as well as the audience, both those who know and don't know the character.

The videos on YouTube in some ways defeats the reason for buying the DVD or Blu-Ray media but it does support the reason why Streaming is the next income stream for content providers. Vudu does offer all of the extras if you purchase the media so there is that.

I'm looking forward to buying Captain Marvel on Blu-Ray or 4K and hope they keep some of the extras under wrap for home media. I only saw CM once in theaters but am anxious to see it again just to compare the gap between the character as presented in CM and Avengers:Endgame. I thought CM's entry into battle against Thanos and his army was stunning and heroically executed.

It was a nice balance without overshadowing the OG Avengers but cementing her power level as off-the-charts.

I agree they did show a lot of them. It’s still nice to have your own copy to watch whenever you want though.

With the advent and increased popularity of "Streaming" I fear the death of Director's Cut and Special Editions along with the loss of deep dive DVD extras.

Studios are really pressuring Directors to only shoot what will make the final edit. With that said the amount of extra footage that the Russos shot for Avengers:Endgame in order to maintain secrecy is actually mind-blowing. Not all of it was exactly alternate ending material because some of it was to keep certain actors and even crew from divulging the plot.

I started collecting media for the extras, Director Cuts, Extended Editions, Criterion Editions, exclusives etc, etc ad infinitum and of course the freedom to watch whenever I wanted to watch. Most extras on media and now available with streaming is just rather perfunctory and bland.

I don't imagine the Captain Marvel DVD will have anything exceptional either.

This film is available on DVD, 4K, etc on 06/11 and I can't find a site that lists the contents yet.

Curious.

Thanks, there were several YouTube channels that I discovered a few days ago that went over all the different home media versions including the contents.

I picked up a 4K copy from Target. I will order the 3D version in a few days from Amazon UK. The Target release just includes a glossy booklet. Nothing memorable or a had to have.

Digital copies still have all of the extras on a lot of movies. There will always need to be a reason to encourage people to buy a format for the premium version.

For some people it like a collectible type item.

reply

True that. Plus, compared to a 4K disc, streaming still doesn’t offer the highest quality out there (it’s excellent but not the best).

And being something of a collector, I just love having these special edition releases. Can’t wait to get my copy/ies of Captain Marvel.
