Remember when we used to get good movies like Eraser

And Jingle All The Way? Now its all this stupid stuff about infinity stones. I mean seriously thats all these movies are about. A bunch of rocks.

Amirite?

And the tesseract, how many of those exist now? Anyways we certainly dont get good movies like Three Amigos anymore as well.

Eraser is a classic hard R action movie. It's exactly what people are talking about in contrast to modern movies being feminized.

reply

So you'd prefer a lousy film over an excellent one only because the lousy one has "hard R action?"

reply

I like Eraser but whether you like it or not, R rated action films just aren't as profitable anymore. I'd be surprised if the upcoming Terminator movie is rated R.

You're clearly trying to parody this other thread "Remember when we used to get good movies like True Lies" https://moviechat.org/tt4154664/Captain-Marvel/5c893e2556403a0ee6f454fa/Remember-when-we-used-to-get-good-movies-like-True-Lies.

But hey, let's play this game, let's check it. Let's remember that time. Let's remember the week Eraser was released. This is the box office the week Eraser was released in 1996:

Movies you could watch in the movie theaters that week, besides Eraser:

■ The Rock, with Sean Connery. One of the best action movies from the 80s-90s. By far, the best movie of Michael Bay.
■ Twister, probably the best disaster movie ever made.
■ Mission: Impossible, the first one, from Brian de Palma. He clearly imitated Hitchcock's style, but he did it damn well. Without being a masterpiece, it started the Mission Impossible franchise and it's considered a very good spy movie.
■ The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the animated Disney version.
■ Dragonheart, with Sean Connery and Dennis Quaid. While flawed, it's still a cute and very enjoyable fantasy movie. And the best dragon ever seen in a movie until Smaug in the Hobbit trilogy.

Thank you, kuku. Well done. I love Arnie, but Eraser is forgettable. The OP is a cut-and-paste troll, who is also forgettable.

reply

They are trying to troll ... but don't quite have the creativity.

👍🏻 Yeah, we don’t need posters like her.

Eraser: C+ It lacked chemistry. The only scene that stands out is the alligator one. About the same quality level as Cpt Marvel.

The Rock: C- Standard absurdities from Bay. Another playground recess action movie. Bay's best is actually Pain and Gain or maybe 13 Hours.

Twister: D Another crappy de Bont film. Character behavior determined by spin of a wheel.

Mission Impossible: D+ de Palma is way overrated. Rewatch this. It is actually a terrible film. de Palma has a flare for some iconic scenes and this movie had the great hanging-heist segment that everyone remembers. Everyone forgets how painfully bad the rest of the movie is.

THoND: B This is a charming toon that misses the poignancy of the original story. Still, good on its own. Better than Cpt Marvel

Dragonheart: C+ Missed opportunities.

Cable Guy: D- Worst Jim flick ever

Things were not much better back then. Perhaps the highs were higher. But the lows were similarly groan-worthy.

The only thing that stood out to me about Eraser was the use of the Railgun, a weapon that appeared in Quake 2 and was quite memorable for wiping out enemies standing in a line. But I preferred the portrayal of this weapon in that game rather than the Arnie movie.

Jingle all the way is a good movie, but when it came out it was seen as a flop and a misstep by Arnold. Eraser didn't light the world on fire even though it made a 100 mill. Very strange you chose these two films as examples, but at least you were original in your choices..... aaaand after reading the other posts I see that you were ironic.
