Best de-aging CGI I've ever seen

Specifically Samuel L. Jackson's de-aged face. Colson was a little off but Fury was about 99% perfect. They've really got this down to a fine art now. Gives me much more hope for The Irishman, that is said to contain a de-aged cast for half the film.

Yep, they perfected the technique in advance by doing Ant-Man 2 first, did you see it?

Extreme close-ups of faces for young Mike Douglas and young Michelle Pfeiffer, mind blowing.

Young Mike = Near perfect.

Young Michelle = PERFECT. I tried to spot a flaw, but could not. Undetectable CGI.

I'm still impressed by what they did with Douglas in Ant-Man 1 and RDJ in Civil War. But yeah they've really stepped it up.

What they did with Chris Evans' face in First Avenger was pretty damn solid too but I hear that was a more painstaking process compared to what they are doing now which has become more streamlined.

For Pfeiffer, they must have used a time machine.

reply

Or possibly (and more specifically) a time vortex. ;)

RDJ as a 20-year old in Civil War brought back so many memories. I grew with him in Less Than Zero and Weird Science. Sent a chill up my spine.

It is the best ever, hands down.

Although Marvel (the vfx team they hire) has been responsible for the most awe-inspiring de-aging seen in film ever since we saw a young Michael Douglas in Ant-Man (shout out to young Sean Young in Blade Runner 2049), they took it to a whole other level with Captain Marvel considering Sam Jackson and Clark Gregg spend the ENTIRE film de-aged, whereas in previous films we got flashbacks that lasted a couple of minutes to only seconds with de-aged actors. Jackson, on the other hand, was de-aged for the entirety of CM and he looked absolutely flawless. If you didn’t know he was de-aged (this would certainly apply to a rare person not that familiar with Jackson), then you wouldn’t question for a single second what you saw on screen. It was nothing short of spectacular.

And I agree about The Irishman— here’s hoping they knock it out of the park! But yeah, Marvel has been owning this de-aging stuff.

I'd be interested to know exactly who did the work, which company? Cause it may actually be the same fx company doing the Irishman CGI.

The famous George Lucas-founded Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is the company that will be handling the de-aging for The Irishman. As it happens, ILM has handled tons of the visual effects for Marvel films (they do everything).

However, since the beginning Marvel has specifically employed another VFX company to do all the de-aging in their films, and that company happens to be Lola Visual Effects (aka Lola VFX). This means that, no, the effects in The Irishman won’t be done by Marvel’s go-to de-aging team. I nonetheless think The Irishman is in good hands with ILM.
