Tesseract

Just to clear up some confusion about this, there is nothing remotely "WTF" about Mar-Vell having the Tesseract.

The one concession I will make is that Kevin Feige thinks the average viewer of the MCU movies must dissect these movies to the nth degree which is why some have missed the detail.

So. Howard Stark, Peggy Carter and Chester Whatshisname setup up SHIELD after SSR.

Howard Stark found the Tesseract after Captain America crashed.

Howard Stark setup a couple of projects, one was GOLIATH and the other was PEGASUS.

PEGASUS was setup for the purpose of studying the Tesseract.

Mar-Vell/Dr Lawson was attached to Project PEGASUS which would explain how she was able to get to use it for her light engine work.

Shes clearly very clever, so her being able to get into SHIELD and PEGASUS isn't much of a stretch, bearing in mind Hydra infiltrated SHIELD.

And for those thinking that these details are retconned into Captain Marvel.... not so.

Projects GOLIATH and PEGASUS are referenced in Iron Man 2, when Tony Stark asks JARVIS to give him all the details on Projects GOLIATH and PEGASUS.

So it seems they really do plan this shit out!

Eeeh, more like they purposely laid out breadcrumbs and were diligent enough to follow up on them later.

I can believe, however, that PEGASUS was always meant to connect to Captain Marvel, since Feige wanted her to be introduced in "Age of Ultron" - it's possible Wanda's limited flight capability is solely a result of that plan (they shot the plate of CM using her hands to fly in the final scene of "Ultron" but they used the plate with Wanda instead).

I do appreciate the fan service in these films - DC films are huge blockbusters too, but they feel (to me) so much more "corporate" because they either have NO respect for continuity or else are so ham-handed about it that it feels insulting.

Not that they won't get my money either way.

Feige is just on another level continuity wise. The only thing that got past him was the "8 years later" error with Spider-Man Homecoming which he had little or no control of.

No need to go as back as IM2. Just watch the opening scene of the original Avengers movie. The facilities where they have hidden and are studying the Tesseract are the PROJECT PEGASUS buildings (NASA/SHIELD Project). It is obvious that Project Pegasus was the project created to study the Teseract. The only thing we do not know is how Mar-Vell found out about it and attached herself to the project.
