No, contrary to insipid complaints like this, Hollywood still makes quite a lot of original films a year.

shareYou know no one forces you to go see them, right? Cinema has always had years of fun genre flicks that don't try to be Sophie's Choice. In the 30's there were the cops and robbers type movies (the Boston Blackies, the Thin Man, etc.) and the Westerns. The 40's had the patriotic war films. The 50's had the drive-in sci-fi/horror movies and so on and so on.
Fortunately, like now, they weren't the ONLY movies in theaters.
How many cop dramas, organized crime, political dramas, disaster movie, sex comedy or car chase based movies have there been? Hollywood has always repeated profitable formulas,and why wouldn't they?
